Ford Bell to buy lunch for veterans on Friday
Check this out - this is a great counterpoint to Bushie's visit tomorrow right around the corner at the Hilton to raise money for Kennedy. $10,000 to get your pic taken w/Bush, or at least $1,000 a plate for rubber chicken. I can guarantee that Ford won't charge that much to get your picture taken with him.

From the website:

While Bush Raises Money for Kennedy, Join Ford at a Barbecue Lunch for Veterans – December 9, 12-2pm

"As you probably know, President Bush is coming to Minneapolis on Friday to raise money for Mark Kennedy’s Senate campaign. Bush and Kennedy are holding a $1,000-a-plate lunch at the Hilton Hotel. Those who can write a cool $10,000 check can have a picture taken with the President.

We have a better idea, and we’d like you to join us. We’ve invited veterans to join Ford Bell and you at Market Bar-B-Que, 1414 Nicollet Avenue, a few blocks away from the high-roller lunch.

We’ve invited Bush and Kennedy to drop by and chat with the veterans about the war and Republican attempts to cut veterans benefits.

Please join us to honor the service of our men and women in uniform and enjoy some good food."

Any bets on whether Screech and Bush will show up to talk to the vets?

2. Folks should stop by the lunch after the protest
If the protest is at 11, then people can hoof over to the BBQ lunch at noon. I hope the protesters and the BBQ make as much press as pretzel boy.

It's cold this morning! My car doors were frozen shut. And I made the mistake of getting off on 11th street off of 94 - there was already traffic and I believe that shortly they are going to barricade some of those streets for the jackass.

4. How did the BBQ go, csorman? Have any pics?
I had to head back to St. Paul after the protest but there were still quite a few there at 12:45.

5. It was awesome
About 60 people were there, and Ford chatted with each and every person, as well as giving a great speech. He talked about how ironic it was that Bush was charging $10,000 per picture at a time when regular folks have to hold bake sales to raise money to send to their sons & daughters in Iraq so that they can buy body armor. He talked about the need for single-payer universal health care and how it would help protect veterans from the drastic cuts they've received to their benefits.

The only money being raised was a pitcher asking for donations to the Fisher House, which supports America's military in their time of need - they provide "a home away from home" that enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time - during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

Hopefully there will be some pics up on the website soon.

I heard that the protest was well-attended - about a dozen folks came to the BBQ right from the protest and they gave good reports.

Bush & Kennedy did not take Bell up on his invitation to come by & chat with the vets. I mean, why would they waste their precious time doing that?! I just watched a snip of Bush's speech yesterday and it made me want to hurl - I really detest that man.

6. Thanks for the report!
Ford Bell = :loveya: Keep up the good work.

Those attending the Boosh fundraiser want to keep the war going. It's good for all their investments and and it doesn't affect them personally.

3. I agree...
I am defiantly becoming a fan of Ford Bell. He doesn't have the rescues that Klobuchar has, but something about him makes me a backer. If money was not such a big part I would be in Bells camp already.
