Local Hurricane Relief Drop Off Sites
I thought I'd add this - I am sure many are already helping & donating, but we should compile a good list here of where to go to donate items. Here's what I found.

See United Way page to check for dropoff locations: http://www.unitedwaytwincities.org/HurricaneKat.cfm#donategoods
(and to request volunteering!)

Many are coming here with just the clothes they were wearing at the time - suitable for the gulf coast heat, but not for Minnesota fall and weather seasons. Much help is needed.

Items being collected to send to those in Ripley
(in conjuction with Hope for the Cities)

Items being collected are:

* Non-perishable food that can be opened without a can opener and does not need to be cooked. Pop top cans of soup, granola bars, etc.

* Personal Hygeine Items. Toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, deoderant, diapers, diaper wipes, handiwipes, toilet paper, women's personal hygeine products, band aids, etc.

* New clothing with the tags on them, sweatshirts, sweatpants socks, bras, underwear, blankets, sheets, towels, etc.

* Books

* Toys

Another dropoff location not listed yet on the United Way page:

Diversified Adjustment Service
600 Coon Rapids Boulevard
Coon Rapids MN 55403
1-800-279-3733
Diversified is located on the corner of Coon Rapids and Foley Blvd. Directly across from Culver's restaurant.

Dropoff Times for this location:
Thursday September 8th, 8:00am til 7:00pm
Friday September 9th, 8:00am til 7:00pm
Saturday September 10th & 11th, 10:00am til 5:00pm

Add any other good local dropoff sites you are aware of!!

1. X-Mas presents

I've got to credit my wife for this idea: Her and I were talking about the devastation & about how (and what) we can contribute. She had the idea that my Christmas present to her this year could be a donation to some hurricane relief/support organization. I thought it was a wonderful idea & asked her to do the same for me. So yesterday afternoon, my wife took out some Christmas money and went shopping for clothes and toiletries and today, during lunch, I dropped off the goods at a dropoff location at the old Met Center parking lot (across from MOA). I was choked up just hearing people saying a heartfelt "thank you".

Aren't I married to an absolute gem of a wife? I'm sooo fortunate!
