Minnesota church leaders protest 'immoral' cuts to state budget

Minnesota church leaders opposed to budget cuts in health care, child care and affordable housing will hold a "worshipful rally for a moral state budget'' at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Capitol.

A variety of clergy members and a choir of volunteers from across the state will gather to promote the rolling back of recent tax cuts or increasing taxes to care for "the least of these among us,'' according to a statement from the sponsoring Minnesota Council of Churches.

The main speakers will be the Rev. Ian Bethel, president of the Minnesota State Baptist Conference, and Bishop Sally Dyck of the United Methodist Church. Musical leaders include Marc Anderson, Marty Haugen, Donna Peña, Mary Preus and the Rev. Carl Walker.
