Michigan's bid to become a Midwest center of movie production is to get a huge boost today with the announcement of a Hollywood film production studio and talent agency opening shop in Pontiac.

Motown Motion Picture Studios, a new company, will open a $54-million, 600,000-square-foot studio and production facility at General Motors Corp.'s former Centerpoint truck plant and office complex in Pontiac, said Gov. Jennifer Granholm's spokeswoman Liz Boyd.

The project is expected to generate more than 3,500 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs.

The governor plans to announce the deal tonight in her State of the State address.

The Hollywood production firm Raleigh Studios is to operate the production site.

1. Former workmate in TV movie this Saturday about Dr. Ben Carson.

This Saturday on TNT Network, there is a movie about the life of Dr. Ben Carson, a world famous neurosurgeon that grew up in Detroit. One of the actors in the film, Geoffrey Beauchamp, is a former workmate of mine at Mobile ED. He has portrayed Abe Lincoln for many years, and some of you that go to plays at Meadowbrook may know him, especially from his work in A Christmas Carol. He once did work on the soap opera Ryans Hope.

In this film (as I understand it), he plays the role of Dr. Freeman, and the scene involves him and Carson (Cuba Gooding Jr.) walking down a hall in a hospital (filmed over on the east side). Geoff is tall, with dark brown hair and striking facial feature. In fact, when my mom first met him, she thought she saw the ghost of Lincoln.

They air this movie this Saturday at 8PM eastern. Enjoy!

2. Very great news
I would love a job at one of the film studios. I'm not sure if they'll have many jobs for college educated marketing majors since based on what the news said, it sounds like a lot of the job will be for make-up artists, camera people, etc. But either way, great news for the area. I look forward to hearing more about these film studios, in addition to the offical announcement for the Allen Park studio.

AGAIN. Been NOT WORKING for 2 years. Used to work for a Post-Production House (Editing). Worked in film and tape. Hope there's a spot for me.
