1. The only contests of note are
DEM PRIMARIES
Sheriff:
Daniel J. Minzey
Iva Jo Bielec
Jerry L Clayton

Drain Commissioner:
Douglas A. Egeler
Janis Bobrin
Richard Deitering

Mayor:
John Hieftje
Tom Wall

Councilmember Ward 5:
Carsten Hohnke
Vivienne Armentrout

NON PARTISAN SECTION:
Judge 15th District Court:
Eric Gutenberg
Joan H. Lowenstein
Margaret Connors
Chris Easthope

I need to do more research, but...

I like Tom on some of the issues here:

I had a bad experience with Chris Easthope.

I don't know much about the other candidates.

I prefer progressives over corporate Dems, but it is hard to tell from some of the candidates websites.

Any thoughts?

2. You forgot Ward 2
Tony Derezinski vs Stewart Nelson. Derezinski is by far the better choice; Nelson is a rabble rouser and, I suspect, a Republican masquerading as a Dem in order to get elected. I base this on the number of signs I see for him in Ann Arbor Hills, at houses I know are owned by Republicans.

Sandi Smith is also a great choice; I can't remember if she's Ward 5 or Ward 1. Isn't Armentrout a County Commission candidate?

I don't think Tom Wall has a prayer of being elected, nor do I think he has any idea of what the mayor's job entails. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Chris Easthope, I know him fairly well and have never had a bad experience nor have I spoken with anyone who has. My current choice for judge is Joan Lowenstein who represents my ward currently; she was an excellent councilperson and went above and beyond for me with the city concerning a parking issue. But I would be satisfied with Easthope as judge.

I think it's time for Minzey to go; too much baggage and questionable spending. I'll be voting for Clayton. And Janis Bobrin, who takes the job of drain commissioner very seriously and has a great environmental record.
