We just signed a purchase agreement for a home in Michigan!!!!!

My husband had my head spinning so much I finally said...go to the airport get on a plane and when you purchase a house, let me know so I can order the truck!!! My husband is not afraid of anything except his own fears... I told him to go dig a hole in the back yard and just cover himself up. It was HIS decision cause I was very willing to go to Cleveland. I hate to say this, besides the DU forum not being very friendly, neither were the real estate aqents. So, I recon friendly/dangerous is better than snooty/less dangerous...since at least SOMEONE will have your back in Detroit!

PS..we are purchasing a house on Seward Street.

5. Well, Seward Street between Woodward and the Lodge has some AWESOME homes.

It somewhat convenient (long walk or short bicycle ride) to the Wayne State University campus and the cultural center (DIA, library, etc.) as well as the New Center district, including the Fisher Theater. Kewl!

7. Our house is closer to Rosa Park Drive..ALL of Detroit has awsome homes

and it WILL rebound...no one could allow a history like Detroit die on the vine... it will recover one person at a time!

6. In the New Center area?

There are some way cool old buildings and some new construction in that general area. The Fisher building (the tall building with the "golden tower") on W. Grand BLVD is my favorite skyscraper in Detroit.

The museums are just a couple of miles south on Woodward, as is Wayne State.

My desire for one of those mansions was quashed, but we did find a very beautiful home into which to move..and I have fallen in love with Detroit...which I was earlier now my husband is in love too!!!

16. If you're a fresh food fan at all, and are living in the city...

I'd recommend visiting the Eastern Market - at least once. Even if you're not a food fan, you may want to check it out. Not to be bossy or anything; it's just a real passion of mine. I live in one of the first "suburbs" of Detroit (read: I'm two minutes from the city border) and go there almost every weekend for my produce. One of my best friends is a Chicago transplant (she's been here ten years) and I took her recently. Her verdict? "I wish I had come here when I first moved to Michigan! I lost sooooo much time."

Enjoy your new city. Feel free to PM me with questions. Though I live just outside the city, it's still my playground. I used to live there and miss it a great deal, but we found a lovely home near the Detroit River that just captivated us. We're lucky it was so close!

The UP is absolutely amazing. It's almost like a different state with the huge stone mountains and powerful Lake Superior. I always see the UP northern coast as an artwork; it's really stunning. There are TONS of waterfalls if you take the time to search them out. :-)
