Ten Things You Can Do Right Now to Help Draft Al Gore
And one thing you can do later to help:

Below are 10 simple things you can do right now to help out. If you wish to become more actively involved with the movement, please sign up as a volunteer or join a chapter in your state (see the Get Involved section on the left).

1. Sign the Draft Gore petition, now over 110,000 strong.

2. Tell all your friends about the petition and gather signatures for the petition on a paper version. (Please send us an email if you gather signatures.) There are millions of us out there. We rely on you to get word to them.

3. Make a contribution to Draft Gore. Our expenses are great and our only source of funding is you. We need to advertise in the mainstream media to let people know about this movement. We can't do it without you.

4. Purchase bumperstickers, buttons, or our new collector poster.

5. Write a letter to Al Gore TODAY and ask him to run:

The Office of the Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203.

6. Write an email to the Democratic National Committee telling them you will support no one but Al Gore in 2008.

7. Have a website or blog? Add our link buttons and promotional ad to publicize our movement.

8. Download a Draft Gore flyer off our website and post it or hand it out in Democratic-friendly areas.

9. Add a signature line to your email (and make sure to include our URL: draftgore.com).

10. Host a party. Watch "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore's Oscar-winning documentary, now available on DVD. Or organize your own event, fundraiser, or party. Then post it on our boards.

Here is #11 for later (and this I've added to their list):

BECOME A DELEGATE. First choice, an uncommitted delegate. In case there is a brokered convention (see below), you can propose Al Gore as a nominee. Second choice, as a committed delegate to your second choice candidate. That way if there is a brokered convention, you can join the uncommitted delegates in supporting Al Gore.

From http://mydd.com/story/2007/2/27/93023/1076 :

Re: The seemingly inevitable brokered convention (2.00 / 1)

This is the only path to Gore.

Really... Hillary has 40% of the delegates, Obama/Edwards/other have the rest.

Let's say Hillary has 40, Obama has 30 and Edwards has 20.

Theoretically Obama and Edwards could come together as some sort of ticket. Given their similar credentials that would be unlikely and perhaps unwise.

Its impossible for Hillary to run with Obama, and similarly unlikely Edwards would be Hillary's choice, given her need for more experience on the ticket.

In other words- the big three are all mutually incompatible on a ticket (unlike, say, Reagan/Bush, where Bush added some foreign policy gravitas and moderate credentials for Reagan, or Kennedy/Johnson, obviously!)

The power player here is whoever is in 2nd. If its Obama or Edwards, either one could call Al Gore and say "I'm in for Veep if you open yourself for a draft" knowing a third of everyone else's support could easily be harnessed for Gore. What's more-- the two tickets--

Gore/Obama or Gore/Edwards make a ton of sense strategically.

Gore/Obama-- African American turnout would be almost as high as if Obama were at the top of this ticket.

Gore/Edwards-- bonus for the dems- no swiftboating this time around- both are well-known quantities and there is really nothing left to say about either from a scandal/ethical standpoint that people don't already know or haven't heard - unlike, say, Guiliani.

A brokered convention is the road for Gore.
And he knows this.

Would you hire George W Bush to be YOUR latex salesman?

1. Any Michiganders who want to get involved, PM me
I'm the leader of the SE Michigan group (my co-leader quit two weeks ago) and we need more volunteers to help with our petition drive to get Al on the primary ballot. Mark Brewer, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, refused to put Gore's name on the list of potential candidates for the ballot, so now, even if Gore announces, his name will not be on the ballot unless we turn in 12,396 valid signatures by October 23 to get his name on the ballot EVEN IF HE SIGNS AN AFFIDAVIT THAT HE'S A CANDIDATE.

If we wind up going back to a caucus plan rather than the January 15 primary (which is a possibility), this will not matter, but we want to be prepared if Gore announces the last couple of weeks in October. Without this petition drive he cannot be on the primary ballot no matter what.

We're getting down to the wire now! If you can't help with the petitioning, please make sure you find someone with a petition and sign it.

Bob Alexander, one of our statewide leaders, will be driving around the state to meet with petitioners and get petitions signed. He will be in SE Michigan on Tuesdays and Fridays, in NW & W Michigan on Sundays and in SW Michigan on Monday evenings. This will start this week and run through October 22.

His Tuesday schedule for SE Michigan is:

10:15-10:45 Livonia at Panera Bread, 37085 6 Mile Road at Newbergh, se corner.
11:25-11:55 Dearborn, at Famous Hamburger, 5808 Schaefer Rd., north of Ford Rd
12:25-12:55 Detroit, Wayne State U., McDonald’s or Wendy’s?, ne corner of Warren & Cass. (THIS LOCATION IS YET TO BE FINALIZED.)
1:25-1:55 Royal Oak, at Caribou Coffee, 401 S Main St.
2:35-3:00 Clarkston, at Caribou Coffee, 6315 Sashabaw Rd, south of I-75
4:00-4:30 Flint, at Valley Family Restaurant, Miller & Linden Roads in Flint Township
5:00-5:25 Perry, at the Coffee & Donut shop, SW corner of M 78 and M 52.

I am waiting for a final schedule for the other days, but I do know he'll be at the Caribou on Main St. in Royal Oak from 6:55-7:25 on Fridays, which is when I'll be there. Once I have the rest of the schedule, I'll post it.
