Protest against the war in Iraq every Saturday at noon in Wyandotte

From the Wyandotte Democratic Club and the Downriver Young Dems:

Every week that U.S. troops remain in Iraq, precious lives are being lost needlessly.

It's time to make your objections known. Please join us every Saturday at 12 o'clock noon at the corner of Fort Street and Oak in Wyandotte for a peaceful protest. For one hour a week we will stand up for withdrawal from Iraq and in support of our troops.

Just show up. Bring your own sign, or one will be provided. We will be there every week, rain or shine, until the troops are home. We look forward to seeing you there.

Well, I finally got on here. I did try the other night, but of course the name I wanted was taken, then I had to wait 24 hours to post. But find you I did! Thanks so much for posting about our event...even one person showing up from here would be great. It was so nice meeting you...thanks for supporting our Young Dems.

I'm off to take the tour around this place. It seems different than I remember, must have been a long time since I've been here to lurk! Any suggestions for good places to hang out?

I asked you in the other thread, which I got to first. Glad you're here. I really hope you'll be at the picnic on Sunday.

Once you donate, if you do, you'll be able to post in any of the groups (as opposed to the forums). The best place to hang out on all of DU, assuming you watch Countdown, is in the Countdown with Keith Olbermann group, or the KOEB. It's under the Politics, Issue and Media groups. We call it the clubhouse and there are a bunch of us who meet there every night while we watch the show. We're all really friendly and get along great. Several of us have met in person and have become friends in real life, too. You can read there even before you donate, but you won't be able to post until you donate and get a star by your name.

There's a lot to see here and it takes some time to find your way around, but it's well worth the effort.

I usually check out Latest Breaking News, General Discussion, General Discussion - Politics, the Al Gore group, this Michigan group (you don't have to donate to post in the state groups) and a few others. Be careful in GD and GDP -- flame wars get started easily. Read all you want, but be careful what you post -- it can erupt at any time.

The Lounge can be fun sometimes, just silly sometimes, too.

3. I am glad to hear about this protest.

I grew up in the Downriver area and will be returning to MI in early August for my high school reunion. I will make sure to come to the protest while I'm in the state. Speaking fo protests, next Sunday my husband and I will be going to an impeach bush protest in Kennebunkport. There should be a lot of coverage because Putin will be meeting with georgie. Then on August 25 we will be going to another protest in Kennebunkport when georgie is there vacationing. This protest will be an anti-war protest. I'll be sure to pack my sign to carry at the protest in Wyandotte.

4. Those Kennebunkport protests sound great

Sorry I won't be in Wyandotte -- I live in Huntington Woods, near the zoo. I posted that for someone else. We have a protest at 11 Mile and Woodward the last Saturday of every month (although this month we had it today instead, but didn't have a great turnout).

Sorry you couldn't make it yesterday -- it would have been great to see you again. It was a good time. Nancy showed up for a little while and the Lt. Gov was there for quite a while, too. Gov. Granholm really wanted to come, but she couldn't make it.

I'm hoping we'll have a DU meetup organized at some point in Chicago -- If you come you'll be able to meet a bunch of DUers in the flesh! As soon as you have enough posts, I can PM (private message) you my cell phone number so we can communicate in Chicago. Actually, I may have your hubby's e-mail address on one of my Gore petitions. If I do, I'll send an e-mail. I don't think you need a ton of posts to be able to PM, though, so hopefully you'll get to that point soon.

12. Yeah, I was surprised that I couldn't post

I tried to do that for the protest update, and I wasn't allowed. Guess I'm still in the initiation phase here. I'll check my daughter's sign in list for your email/phone# as well. She probably has it, but I'll tell hubby to check his email too. I'm sure I'll be able to post soon in any case. A DU meetup would be great. Have you heard anything about a Michigan meetup? Maybe with the MichLib bunch? Let me know...

14. I just read your blog. It is great!!

I think it is important that you show the sad and rising numbers each week of those killed. Maybe that will finally wake this country up to what is happening in georgie's war.
I will be in Lincoln Park on Sat., August 11th for my high school reunion. My husband and I plan to meet your group at noon and protest with you (if you don't mind.) We went to the Kennebunkport protest last Sunday and it was so exciting to be with so many people who feel as we do about this corrupt administration and the two idiots who think they own this country. Wish we could be in Wyandotte for the Sat. before too, but that is the day we will be leaving Maine and driving to Michigan for the week. It's been several years since I have been "home." I'm looking forward to the trip. Good luck with your protests. You are doing a good thing. Sometimes I feel that is all we can do because our Congress Critters don't seem to get it when we call or e-mail them. Americans really need to take to the streets and make our voices heard.

My husband, daughter, and I will be in Chicago for Yearly Kos the week before, so it works out well. I would hate to miss you! Thanks for checking out my blog - the visual of those numbers is so powerful, which is why I did it. If anyone thinks they can't start a blog, think again...it was super-easy. As for the protest, I know you have your own signs, but we have plenty, in case you bring someone else or don't have room for yours. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
