U.S. Rep. Capuano to endorse Patrick for governor
March 27, 2006

BOSTON --U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, who weighed his own bid for governor this year before deciding to run for re-election to Congress, told The Associated Press on Sunday that he has decided to endorse Deval Patrick for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. The endorsement, scheduled to be formally announced Monday afternoon at Patrick's campaign headquarters, will mark the second congressional backing for the first-time political candidate.

Patrick previously picked up the support of U.S. Rep. James McGovern, D-Mass.

Capuano, formerly the mayor of Somerville, holds a political seat representing Boston and Cambridge that was previously held by House Speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill Jr. and more recently by U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II.

Patrick has emphasized his commitment to working with city and urban leaders, and his campaign hopes that Capuano's endorsement will echo in those ranks. Patrick is a former top federal civil rights prosecutor and business executive. He has never held political office.

By email

Dear Friends,

It is my great pleasure to join your campaign to make Deval Patrick the next governor of Massachusetts. Deval is a candidate who shares my dedication to the core values that define the Democratic Party. Massachusetts will truly benefit from his desire to bring economic prosperity and growth to all residents of the Commonwealth.

In joining this campaign, I will work hard to get Deval elected, and I hope you will continue doing whatever you can as well. So if you haven’t already, please sign up to volunteer, contribute, or simply spread the word to your friends and neighbors. If you have already gotten involved, take an extra step and get a friend or family member involved, set up a Team Patrick page, or consider matching your contribution.

It will take every one of us doing everything we can to win, but working together we can change Massachusetts politics.

US Congressman, Michael Capuano
Democrat, MA 8th

I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail over the coming months.

Sincerely,

Michael Capuano
United State Congressman (D – MA, 8th)
