Anti-gay Rep. Emile Goguen (Fitchburg) may retire at end of term
Rep. Goguen may retire at end of term
By Kyle Alspach

FITCHBURG -- State Rep. Emile Goguen said he is "leaning toward" retiring when his term ends next year, and said he would support City Councilor Stephen DiNatale as a potential replacement.

<snip>

Goguen said he will make a final decision in February about whether he will run for re-election next year, but acknowledged he has thought seriously about retiring.

<snip>

DiNatale said he has yet to make a final decision about whether or not to run, but that he has "given it a significant amount of thought and discussion."

DiNatale also noted he would be grateful for Goguen's support.

"If I decided to go ahead and run, I would be greatly honored if he were to support me," DiNatale said. "I'm flattered and I'm honored he would say that."

Another potential candidate for the seat is Susan Koeck, who previously served on the City Council for eight years.

Koeck, a Democrat, ran unsuccessfully against Goguen last year, but said she plans to pursue his seat even if it means running against him again.

Golden Dome Goodness
We are unworthy of Mariposa at Beyond 495. Way up and out there, she posted her Christmas present to us in electrons. The evil elf of Fitchburg, the curious Rep. Emile Goguen may not run for re-election.

The infamous Fitchburger would join his anti-gay and anti-same-sex-marriage buddy Rep. Phil Travis in retiring. There's no guarantee that the backwaters won't dredge for like-minded replacements, but we can hope that reason prevails.

With all his free time, perhaps he can backtrack over his legislative career...and find where he left his brain and his compassion.
