All The Kings Men
A drag king performance art troupe.

Performing Sunday October 9th at Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Theater in Davis Square, Somerville. Two shows (7:00pm and 9:30pm), $20.

All The Kings Men (ATKM) is an all female performance art troupe dedicated to challenging the confines of gender identity and stereotypes through theatrical story-telling set to music. Described as "much more than a drag king show," and winner of the Boston Phoenix's "Best Kept Secret" Award, ATKM takes drag performance to the level of theatre, but in this case think Shakespearean theatre, only in reverse: these 8 women play all roles both male and female.

The stories told in this cabaret-style show cover a wide range of topics using music from many genres. The show runs the gamut from disco to pop, rock to rap. From pop culture satire to Broadway musical numbers, you will see it all. There is political commentary, plenty of comedy, dance and lots of gender-bending, of course! This is still drag, right down to the feigned facial hair and stuffed packages, but add to this the aspiration to be more than your average drag show and you have ATKM: a talented crew that will make you laugh, contemplate, maybe even cry; they will challenge you, but you are guaranteed to leave this show satisfied.

Just wanted to add that we've created a piece in this show that was almost completely inspired by my wanderings around the DU message boards. It's powerful and brought tears to the eyes of my fellow performers when shown at rehearsal.
