MA Democrat Party Platform to include pro-same-sex marriage . . .

"DEMOCRATS EXPECTED TO BACK GAY MARRIAGE
Author(s): Raphael Lewis, (Boston Globe Staff)
Date: May 4, 2005
Page: A1 Section: Metro/Region

"The Massachusetts Democratic Party is poised next week to add an endorsement of gay marriage to its platform, despite a nationwide backlash against same-sex marriage that led voters to approve bans in 11 states last fall.

"Philip W. Johnston, the state Democratic Party chairman, said yesterday that the party's 3,000 delegates will consider the platform change May 14, three days before the first anniversary of legalized same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. State Democratic parties in Iowa and Colorado added endorsements of same-sex marriage to their platforms last year. 'I don't anticipate any serious debate about it,' Johnston said of the party vote that will take place at Paul E. Tsongas Arena in Lowell. 'I think most delegates will support it. In this state, the more people get used to the idea, the more support there is.'

"If approved by the party delegates, the new addition to the Democratic Party's platform will read:
'We affirm our commitment to the Massachusetts constitutional guarantee to same-sex marriage, and all of its rights, privileges, and obligations, and reject any attempt to weaken or revoke those rights.'

. . . snip . . .

"A Boston Globe poll in March found that 71 percent of Democrats surveyed statewide said they believed same-sex marriage should be allowed, and 24 percent did not. By comparison, 35 percent of Republicans supported same-sex marriage and 59 percent of Republicans opposed it. Independents supported same-sex marriage 53 percent to 35 percent, with 12 percent unsure. Overall, 56 percent of those surveyed backed same-sex marriage, while 37 percent did not and 7 percent weren't sure."

1. Lowell Sun article on this
I am from the Merrimack Valley and am strongly in support of the pro-Gay Marriage plank in the platform. I'm going to the Con and I plan to vote FOR this plank. (To hell with the Lowell Sun and to hell with wimpy Democrats who don't stand for anything except being afraid of Rethugs.)

2. The Lowell Sun . . . is a rightwing rag . . .
.
The Lowell Sun is a rightwing rag. This is the newspaper that bashed John Kerry when he returned from Vietnam as an anti-War veteran and decided he wanted to run for Congress as a U.S. Representative from the Lowell, Massachusetts area. The Lowell Sun crapped all over Kerry . . . as a result Kerry lost his first election. That paper hasn't ceased in ranting against Kerry at every opportunity. And it often chants for rightwing causes across the board too.

Didn't the Lowell Sun endorse Bush for president too?

Overall, the MediaNews Group, Inc. (corporation that owns the Lowell Sun and other newspapers across America including a Mormon newspaper in Utah) is a rightwing extension of George W. Bush. And Dean Singleton, the MediaNews Group, Inc. vice chairman and CEO, is known to brag about his relationship w/ George W. Bush. (http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/41/41223.html)

Hats off to you, TayTay, for standing up for good causes = equal rights/civil rights for gays in marriage laws. Give em hell at the Convention!
