Letter: Disgrace in Massachusetts
Sunday, November 28, 2004

Only in Massachusetts could same-sex marriage be officially legalized -- that is how depraved Massachusetts has become! Massachusetts, also known as the Bay State, is now truly known as the Gay State.

On May 17, 2004, the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts officially legalized same-sex marriages. What a disgrace! In fact, one of the major reasons that John F. Kerry lost to George W. Bush was because of the same-sex marriage issue, which haunted Mr. Kerry as being "just another Massachusetts weirdo politician."

Wake up, Massachusetts! The rest of the United States is in step and is normal -- and Massachusetts is out of step and abnormal. The rest of America knows that same-sex marriages are abnormal, immoral, perverted and illegal.

The people of Massachusetts desperately need to talk to "real Americans" in the "heartland" of America -- states such as Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Nebraska (just to name a few). These plain folks who harvest the nation's wheat and plant the nation's corn will tell us that marriage is a sacred institution between one man and one woman and they produce children.

The traditional American family is the very backbone of America because without the traditional American family, there is no hope for America.

SCOTT WOLFE, Worcester

3. Remember Green Acres?
I loved that show. Still do.

Every episode has Oliver Wendell Douglas pontificating about the virtues of the agrarian yeoman, while fifes and drums played in the background.

"These plain folks who harvest the nation's wheat and plant the nation's corn will tell us that marriage is a sacred institution between one man and one woman and they produce children. "

What melodious prose from this Wise Man.

Who the FUCK does he think he's talking about?

I think he's confusing farmers with ignorant rednecks.

It's assholes like this that make me wish I was gay -- just to give them one more reason to hate me....

"Massachusetts sadly out of step," a letter from Nov. 13, is just another in a long series of coded homophobic letters to the editor by fundamentalist Jennie Maroney of Framingham.

The so-called elitist, activist judge Margaret Marshall was appointed to the State Supreme Court by a Republican governor and appointed to be chief justice of the Supreme Court by another Republican governor, not some loony lefty from Cambridge or Northampton or Provincetown, but a Republican governor from the conservative town of Hudson.

Before the citizens in the "red" states start lecturing anyone about marriage and morals, they should resolve their own internal issues and problems.

Massachusetts has the lowest rate of divorce in the nation and some of the highest rates are among born-again Christians in the Bible Belt and if you compare the overall intelligence level of the "blue" states and the "red" states, you may be surprised where the so-called "stupid citizens" actually live.

You've been bashing Massachusetts for the 20 years that I've been reading this newspaper; perhaps you'd be more comfortable living in West Virginia or Utah or Alabama. But somehow I don't think so, I think you love living in the state that's "ahead of the curve."

LEE DeSORGHER, Holliston

5. Odd?
Last time I looked at my birth certificate it didn't say un-real American because I was born in MA. Were these degrees of citizenship that favor "plain folk" adopted before or after the Patriot Act?

8. who owns this metro garbage?
They're all over the place. When I was in Seoul, they had it. But it must be like Rupert Murdoch's love child or something.

Or is that the metro is on THEIR media blasters but not ours?
