Boston radio station goes progressive talk (almost)
Two years after the switch of Clear Channel combo WKOX and WXKS, it looks like progressive talk is slowly returning to the Boston dial.

WWZN (1510AM) is adding a local progressive talk morning show, to be hosted by Jeff Santos. Santos had previously hosted a daily hour-long afternoon show during the election season. In addition, the syndicated show from West Coast talker Peter B. Collins will air from 6-9P ET.

The transition, whatever there is of it, will be a gradual one. The station, for now, is still holding on to some of its sports programming, including "Young Guns Radio," will move from mornings back to the afternoons.

3. Anyone who can't figure out how to sell Progressive Talk Radio IN BOSTON...

... is some kind of mutant monkey fish.

I spoke to the "marketing" guy at the station that USED TO carry Air America in the Boston area, right after they'd made the decision to give-up on it.

My impression of him was that he'd somehow gotten the job and was running it as if it were a clerical position, where he had a notebook on his desk from the last guy with detailed instructions of what to do every day.

I'd ask him things like, "For Progressive Talk Radio, who is your targeted audience? Liberals and Democrats? And how are you going to reach them? Where do you FIND Liberals and Democrats? I'll give you a hint: putting Al Franken signs on top of taxi cabs isn't going to work. Have you ever sent someone from your station to a meeting of any kind of Liberal activist group? No? You haven't? Has anyone from your station ever attended A Democratic Caucuses? No? A Democratic Town Hall Committee? No? Have you sent pens with your radio station's name on them to Liberal or Democratic activist groups? No?"

The guy said to me, "I really wish I had spoken to you six months ago."

Yeah.

Right.
