Quincy Mayor William Phelan lost his bid for a fourth term in one of the most hotly-contest elections the city has ever seen. He lost by 2,000 votes to his former parks commission, Thomas Koch.

In Brockton , Mayor James Harrington survived a rematch with Jass Stewart, who was seeking to become the city’s first black and gay mayor.

Former Braintree state rep Joseph Sullivan, better known for his stint as state Lottery director, won a landslide victory to become Braintree’s first mayor.

In Weymouth, outgoing Executive Secretary Sue Kay was elected the town’s second mayor by a wide margin. For details, see The Patriot Ledger and the Enterprise.
