How safe is Paul Sarbanes Senate seat?
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 12:25 PM by LynneSin
Trying to figure out how to allot my time in 2006 for campaigning between helping oust Rick Sanitarium up in PA and getting rid of Ehrlich in your state.

Now I find out Sarbanes is retiring  I really liked the guy - great liberal senator. Is his seat safe or is there a repuke that could give the democrats a run for the position. I just keep seeing repuke ideology creeping northward and worried that Maryland may fall next.

Is the seat safe (and can we get Ehrlich out of the statehouse?)

1. I believe we will be able to oust Erlich
and I think O'Malley is the man to do it. As for Sarbanes seat, I tend to lean toward Mfume, who was once my Congressman, and some appear to think that he would not be the best choice, especially in a match-up against Lt. Guv. Steele. See this thread

There is concern that so many are going to be in the running for the seat but I believe if we stick together in the end we will keep the seat.

3. Well, I'm sure I'll make a few trips to MD just to help out the cause
I like having all my neighbors in the Blue. Getting rid of Santorum & Elrlich would be just the thing we need to do!!

4. Oh yeah, I remember, my friend was an MD election judge
She said hackers found 16 ways to break into the machines and yet your idiot governor didn't think it was important to fix the issue

9. I remember the Circuit Court in Anne Arundel Co.
found that there is very little chance of hacking into Diebold! True Vote MD tried to take the County to Court, but the Judge apparently couldn't take his head out of his anus.
:grr:

5. It depends on who we run and who they run.
The Republican bench in Maryland is very thin. The Democratic bench in Maryland is DEEP. Id say if we run Ben Cardin, Chris Van Hollen, or Steny Hoyer we will win big.

Hey Dave, what's the scoop on CVH's hire, Mike Morrill? You like it?

11. I know Mike
He's a great guy. He's had a tough job working for Senator Mikulski for a very long time. He was her Communications Director for a long time and more recently ran her re-election campaign. Very good at what he does.

8. If Michael Steele is the GOP candidate, then we may have a tough race
He is black and doesn't talk like a wingnut, although he is leaning in that direction. He theoretically could siphon off black votes in Baltimore City and Prince Georges County, two Democratic strongholds.
I personally think we should nominate Ben cardin, who is very well liked, and is my congressman. Kwesi Mfume is fine with me, but the GOP will paint him as some Black Panther type extremist radical who hates white people.

I think Ehrlich will be gone. Mayor O'Malley will whip him six ways from Sunday, especially as Ehrlich is turning more and more rightward after he ran as a moderate in 2002. His buddy-buddy relationship with Bush won't help him in MD.
