How New Orleans will be "rebuilt"
Here's a theory on what is going to be done with New Orleans.

It's likely that federal monies are going to be used to rebuild New Orleans. But nothing like what it used to be . . . no history, no flavor, nothing.

The area had a number of oil refineries BEFORE the hurricane flooded it.

How much do you want to bet that it's going to turn into a company town - just one huge area of oil refineries?

With the federal disaster monies, you're going to have the levees rebuilt - they way they should have been.

And the taxpayers are going to fund it.

And the oil companies are going to have their extra refineries that they wanted. You know how the mantra is "no new refinery has been built since 1976"? Well, when gas went cheap, why would you want to increase supply? No profit in spending money increasing the output and "flooding" the market.

5. omg, you are ABSOLUTELY right
public works would put so many jobless from the affected area back to work. Anyone who reads this, please email and email all of our national and state congress-people. I remember studying, back in high school, that public works projects helped bring about the end of the Great Depression. (am I correct here?)

8. WSJ: White rich elude Orleans chaos, don't want poor blacks back
"The new city must be something very different, Mr. Reiss says, with better services and fewer poor people. "Those who want to see this city rebuilt want to see it done in a completely different way: demographically, geographically and politically," he says. "I'm not just speaking for myself here. The way we've been living is not going to happen again, or we're out."
