Another strike against Jindal
I used to like this guy during the governor race. But I dislike him more every day he sinks deeper into the GOP's swill. Check out this email he sent to his supporters over the weekend. As mean a tone as he takes talking about liberals, I guess he doesn't want my support in the future!

--------------------------
FROM BOBBY JINDAL 2/20

It has been a couple of weeks since I have written. A lot has happened in that time, but I didn't want to swamp you with updates and emails.

Open Doors with Bobby

I am starting up a program called Open Doors with Bobby. Basically, it is going to be exactly what it sounds like, a chance for anyone to come in and talk to me one on one. We will be holding them all over the district, but we are starting in Mandeville and Metairie on Thursday. Mandeville will be at 10:00 am and Metairie at 2:00 pm. Walk-ins are welcome, but I would suggest you call our Northshore or Southshore office to set up a time. We want to hear from you in terms of how our office can be of assistance and also any ideas you have to make our government work better for you. Don't worry if you can't make these times; we will be doing these regularly and all around the district.

Broadcast Decency Act

I was proud to vote, as part of a large bipartisan majority, to make it easier for our families to enjoy network television broadcasts without constantly worrying about shocking and obscene images coming into our living rooms. Obviously, we parents have the ultimate responsibility to control the remote control and supervise what our children watch. However, as the father of two young children, I am tired of having to cover their eyes and ears unexpectedly and am proud to work for a return of the traditional family hour during prime time on national network television. The new legislation does not censor what networks can show, nor does it affect at all what cable stations can do, but it does add teeth to existing laws to discourage Hollywood producers from pushing the envelope just for the sake of shock value. The bill we passed now goes to the Senate.

Protecting the Faith-Based community

It seems like the faith-based community is being attacked from all sides nowadays. Just this past week, liberals in Congress tried to amend a bill before the Education and the Workforce Committee in order to discriminate against faith-based organizations that help with worker training. I am glad I am on that committee so I can have the chance to defend the great work the faith-based community is doing. Louisiana needs a strong, educated, well-trained workforce to help grow our economy, so the fact that liberals keep working so hard to prevent the faith-based community from helping is absurd. We should demand accountability from any group that gets funding, and not tilt the playing field against or for any group. When one of my colleagues objected to any funding going to any group that started their day with a prayer, I was tempted to point out that criterion would disqualify both the Supreme Court and the Congress! We were successful in Committee in advancing the bipartisan notion that faith based groups should not be discriminated against, and now the fight will move to the floor of the House.

A trip to the White House

I had the distinct honor of being asked to attend a special briefing in the White House this past week. There were only 11 of us in total and we ended up having a wonderful two-way conversation with the President, the Vice President and the President's Chief of Staff in the Cabinet Room. I had the opportunity to fill him in on the priorities and needs as I saw them for Louisiana, and I know he was listening. Having been there before, but as staff for the Administration, it was a different perspective sitting on the other side of the table!

Protecting the legal system

The House passed a bill this week to strengthen the class action lawsuit system in this country. The bill, which had already been passed by the Senate and has now been signed by the President, removes some of the loopholes in the system that have allowed lawyers to shop for courts that will rule in their favor, though not necessarily in the victims'. There was a situation in which some victims, who won their suit, ended with worthless coupons in the process, while their lawyers made out with millions. This new law should remedy that problem and help us all in the process. Certainly, those that have been injured through the negligence of others should be compensated, but frivolous lawsuits are a hidden tax on us all - making health care and other goods and services more expensive. The Senate already passed an identical measure, so this legislation became law with the President's signature.

CNN again

I had the opportunity to be on CNN last week. I was interviewed by Bob Novak for a segment called The Novak Zone, which runs on Saturday afternoons. We crammed an entire film crew into my office - there were more lights than people. But the atmosphere was very relaxed and I got to have a very nice conversation with Bob, who has been covering politics for more than 50 years. It was certainly a more welcoming experience than the last time I spoke to him on Crossfire a month ago, but then, James Carville wasn't yelling every second.

There is more to tell - I have co-sponsored bills to help reduce health insurance costs for small businesses and prevent frivolous lawsuits against restaurants (like the one that has been filed against McDonalds by a plaintiff mad that they ate too much "junk food"!), voted to discourage states in this post-9/11 environment from giving drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants identical to the ones they give their own citizens as one more way of making it harder for potential terrorists to attack our nation, had my first chance to preside over the House in the Speaker's chair, was honored to be asked to serve on a select Whip team focused on the budget, and spoke again on the floor and CSPAN about cracking down on fraud, waste, and abuse in our government to protect our tax dollars - but I will save those for another update.

1. I hated this shill even when he was running for Governor
It was so obvious that he was a puppet of the Bush administration and the national GOP. The second he ran a radio ad where he said "Hi I'm Bobby Jindal and I want to talk to you today about traditional family values", I really wanted to puke. I held my nose and supported Blanco (hardly progressive by any means) because I couldn't stand Jindal and because I really wanted a Democrat to WIN one. Blanco really disappointed me by not throwing some serious support behind Kerry (another reason I supported her) but still, at least Jindal is not our Governor.

4. About Jindal
I tried running against him for Congress. I could not raise the funds because I believe that people saw his monumental fundraising scared others away.

Why donate $50 to a campaign when that persons opponant has over a million.

Did you like his last email he sent out where he said it was URGENT that people donate funds?
