Any Teachers from Kentucky?
I'm looking for someone who could tell me a bit about what teaching is like in KY. Salary, benefits, placement, etc. I'm looking at teaching in Louisville (Born and raised there) when I retire from the Navy. Thanks in advanced for your candid input.

Another (born and raised) Louisvillian here. :)

I'm not a teacher but my mother retired from the public school system a few years ago. I don't know what the starting salary is currently, but I believe she was making mid-to-upper $50s when she retired.

They have eased up on education requirements in the past few years-- allowing professional experience and other degrees to take the place of a formal degree in education. I don't know whether this would be of interest to you.

Demand remains reasonably high, particularly in math, science and special ed (mom was special ed and she still gets several calls a year with job offers).

The teachers' union IS engaged in an ongoing battle with Frankfort/Fletcher over benefits, particularly healthcare costs. They have kept them at bay so far, but... My mother retired with a nice pension and great healthcare benefits but retiree healthcare is also in Fletcher's sights.

Anyhow, hope this helps a bit.
