With our new republican governor? I'm not sure if he helps or hurts that shot, because I've spoke with a lot of people who are majorly annoyed with him already. Most of those same people are fed up with Bush as well... but I don't want to be overly optimistic.

I'm in SE Kentucky, Harlan to be exact. We tend to run Democratic in this county, but only by a small margin and we have our fair share of fundies. Winning strategy is to focus on jobs and the economy around here I think. Abortion, Gay Marriage, and maybe even the war are lost causes around here.

So, what is the general mood in your area of Kentucky? And most importantly - do we have a shot at swinging blue this November?

1. Historically speaking...
....and this was as late as the 1970s, Kentucky was a fairly Democratic state.

There have been areas, such as parts of Appalachia, that have tradionally GOP strongholds.

I guess the big suprise for me (having not lived in KY for many years now, but following KY politix from a distance) was the progessive GOP takeover of the state...most of the Congressional delegation, and now the Governor.

The GOP does do well in KY from time to time (including wins at statewide offices such as senator and governor..such as Louis Nunn from back in the 1960s), but the GOP takeover of the house seats and the state Senate, is, I think, a real shift in the political landscape.

3. Yes, the very same Waverly Hills...
....I used to live very near that sanitarium, and used to hike all over those hills around it and Waverly Lake and Bobby Nichols Golf Course.......hence the handle...the Waverly Hills hiker....

4. I lived up the road a bit
in Shively, right where the waterson crosses Dixie Hwy.

My uncle died at the Sanitorium. When our family visited there, I would go out back and get some cardboard and slide down the hill. I was too young to go in to see him so I did what kids do.

I used to hike the hills up there. There were a lot of old family graveyards in those hills.

Getting back to the topic, I think Fletcher's distain for ethics rules will come back to haunt him. He seems to be very corrupt. Too often overt piety is a cover for something amiss.

6. Hell Yes ! - Kerry can take Kentucky
I think if we have a Kerry/Edwards ticket the chances are really good that Kerry will win. There are a lot of Republicans here in Louisville that are really ticked off at Bush. A lot of them really liked Edwards and it would sure be a major selling point for them.

7. Clinton carried KY in 92, and
maybe 1996. Kentucky is a swing state, even though it is part of the Bible belt. We just elected a Dem to replace Fletcher - Ben Chandler.

8. Down with Fletcher
Fletcher is really annoying me.I call him little chimp. I would have to disagree about Kentucky being a blue state this time around.I hear tons of I want a president that is gonna kick some ass or hannity is the greatest going around.these people here in s.Louisville are conservative radio junkies and seem to be buying the propaganda,I hope these people don't vote,i hope i am wrong about this, but Kerry/Edward sign's,bumper stickers seem to be far and in-between.

11. Bush took KY by 15% last time...my guess is 7-8% this time.
There's a lot of K/E support but not enough to overcome the Six Flags Over Jesus bigots.
