Anyone catch the Phill Kline story on channel 5?

WOW. I have to tip my hat to the live, late breaking and investigative crew.

They followed Phill and took pictures of his car in the parking lot. They even sued to get the records to show how often he parked his car at his office. And they showed he worked many days for 1 or 2 hours. He never worked at all on 24 different days. He worked an average of 29 hours a week while earning $143K a year. Yes, 29 hours a week.

Side note - that isn't enough hours a week to get health insurance at most regular jobs.

They interviewed the DA in Topeka and he said he has to work 50 to 60 hours a week to get his job done.

Then they followed Phill home and basically proved he is just renting an apartment in Stilwell but living n Topeka. And it is against Kansas law for him to live outside of Johnson County.

The son of a bitch. Pisses me off to no end that my tax dollars are paying his salary.

Now will he be held accountable or will his lawbreaking just be ignored, like that of the Bush administration?

And I bet he's too self-absorbed to take it. I think the snake handlers are running out of forbearance from voters. This will propel it forward, no?

TV report questions amount of time Kline spends in Johnson County office

Questions about how much time District Attorney Phill Kline spends in his Johnson County Courthouse office have been raised again with the release of key-card records to a television station.

After a months-long fight with Johnson County, Meredith Corp. and its KCTV-5 affiliate recently received the records showing when Kline comes and goes from his office. The station broadcast a report Monday on Kline that included information on the records.

Since Kline took over as district attorney in early January, critics have questioned how much time he spends in his Johnson County office. Some have contended that the former Kansas attorney general was not in the office enough and was devoting too much time to efforts to stop abortion.

Last spring, when interviewed by The Kansas City Star, Kline defended himself, saying he was doing his job. In September, when the topic came up again, Kline acknowledged to The Star that he spends some time on abortion matters but still performs all of his duties as district attorney.

about how the power of the TheoCons has slipped in KC.
I remember the days of KYFC and the Pagan Invasion show.
I remember the death threats to Pagan bookstore owners I heard personally.
I remember fending off drunken Piper HS boys with baseball bats invading private property at a Wiccan holiday ritual.

I am beginning to think maybe things are starting to slide for the snake handling crowd.
Of course, loss of power makes people dangerous.

Kline's theocratic panty raid made Kansas yet again an embarassment on the national stage.
Maybe that era is over.

3. I happened to be going to the

Johnson County Courthouse in January when Phill was sworn in. As I was exiting the courthouse, I overheard a couple of attorneys chatting. One asked the other if he was going to Phill's reception. The other laughed out loud and said no, he wasn't.

I was at an event a couple of weeks ago where Rick Guinn also attended. Rick, as most of you here probably already know, has changed his party registration, is now a Democrat, and is running for the Johnson County DA's position. Since I used to volunteer in the Adult Records Room at the JOCO courthouse doing filing, I asked Rick if there has also been a loss of personnel at the lower levels, and he immediately responded, "Oh, yes." Because the people I worked with as a volunteer were nonpartisan in the best sense of the word -- they did their jobs and whatever political opinions they had remained private -- I've hesitated to call on any of them and bring up partisan politics. But it's pretty distressing to think that it's not only DA's and assistant DA's, but perhaps the real core of the courthouse, the good folks who file paperwork, who see to it that the day-to-day operations occur have also been leaving.

I can also tell you that the County Commissioners have looked into the possibility of lowering the DA's salary, but I suspect they really can do nothing about that.

My main concern is that this will only be read by those who already know these things. Perhaps we need to figure out a way to reach out to the larger community.

My chief concern is that he will be not be held accountable. This subject comes up every month at our party meetings and we are always told there is nothing we can do. There was one lady about 6 months ago who took names and was going to put an action committee together but I never heard anymore about that.

In a county where tagging your car in MO is a crime and they DO go after residents who do that, you would think a DA who lies about his residence would be a pretty big deal.

Maybe I should get some t-shirts made IMPEACH PHILL. LOL
