Just got back from Kansas
Accompanied the husband to western Kansas for a pheasant hunt, so I could help him drive. (I don't hunt.) Just wanted you all to know I like your state. Haven't been through it in years, went through during sunflower season the last time. But I enjoyed the big sky, the dappled landscape, all the reminders of how much history there is in Kansas. Not to mention the elbow room -- for the first time I could understand the urge to go west. Go where you have a lot of room to breathe, and there's no one breathing down your neck, so to speak.
I hope to return next year for the William Inge festival in Lawrence. Hopefully, then, I can see a little bit more of your state.

1. Thank you.
I am a transplanted Missourian, but there is a lot of beauty and grandeur to Kansas.

Try to spend a bit of time in the Flint Hills next time you come through. I would recommend around Matfield Green or Manhattan. Oh, and I like late April/early May in KS best, though I am fond of bad weather, so YMMV.

3. The Inge Festival is in April, right?
Lawrence is a great town. You'll be at the university when they're in the middle of sprucing it up for graduation. Let us know when you're coming in and where you're staying, we'd love to meet you. I'm sure we can convince a few of the local DU'ers to hold a meetup. Hell, I can probably convince our friend to throw an old-fashioned bonfire party, so we can greet you in real Kansas-sytle: food, drink and conversation under the stars.

You were in the less populated areas of the state. Here in the northeastern part of the state we have constant battles with unscrupulous developers trying to pave over everything.

5. We're worse than the "Happy Days" gang
Remember on "Happy Days" when one person had to go to Hawai'i and it seemed like every one in town would go? We're like that around here. Only difference is, our clarion call is a party. We're always looking for excuses to hang out and be merry. Most of us are willing to drop almost anything for a chance to share a beer or some time together.

BTW, best microbrew beer in the area is in downtown Lawrence at the Free State Brewery. The local Drinking Liberally group meets at the Free State.

9. No way, man
He was off boozing and smoking out behind Arnold's.

You only come out of the fear that proud will hunt you down if you don't.
