Thanks to bush - 900 layoffs in Wichita
Bush budget cuts contribute to approximately 900 layoffs at Wichita Boeing plant

Hundreds left jobless in Wichita due to President Bush’s misplaced priorities

TOPEKA – President Bush’s budget mismanagement hit home in Kansas yesterday when Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in Wichita announced they layoff 25 percent of their workforce starting today. Boeing cited defense budget cuts as a main reason for the layoffs.

"If you want to know how George W. Bush is hurting Kansas, this is exhibit A," said Mike Gaughan, Executive Director of the Kansas Democratic Party. “He's run the budget into the ground, and now is looking anywhere for things to cut. The problem is his budget cutting axe just whacked one of our nation’s important defense assets and is causing the loss of hundreds of jobs in Wichita.”

President Bush also continues to shortchange Kansans by failing to replace Kansas National Guard equipment that the Pentagon ordered be left in Iraq. Governor Kathleen Sebelius has made repeated requests to the administration to replace this much-needed equipment, but the requests of her and dozens of other governors from both parties, have not been met.

“Whether it’s a lack of equipment for the National Guard or cuts to national defense assets like Boeing, Kansans are suffering the consequences of President Bush’s reckless budget mismanagement,” Gaughan said.

“While the Wichita community loses hundreds of jobs and our National Guard’s readiness suffers, President Bush is once again failing to address the most pressing issues at home, including the need for more strategic investments that can protect the United States and create quality jobs for American workers,” said Gaughan.
