As successful as YearlyKos was this year, in 2007 it should be even bigger and more influential. Tom Vilsack, the former governor of Iowa and a likely presidential candidate, is already lobbying for it to be held in Iowa — the site of the first presidential caucuses in 2008.

Very, very cool. I'd love to have a huge technological/political conference here like that.

1. Well, chalk one good idea up for Tom!
I think it sounds like not only a good idea, but a credible one considering the level of political activity we should have in Iowa in 2007. I don't think they would have any shortage of candidates at the event, that's for sure.

Besides, we are in the middle of the country and we offer cheap hotels. They better at least consider it!

4. I thought they scrapped the rainforest idea.
Is it back on the table?

And where the hell would it be?

(btw, I hate Coralville.)

5. Not scrapped totally as yet - but Coralville has lost out
Last I recall the rainforest would no longer be located in C'ville but there are several other locations that are bidding for it. Riverside, Tiffin, Grinnell(not sure about that one) someplace south of DesMoines and as an outside shot Dubuque.
Riverside is building that new casino right off I-380. I think whoever gets the nod has to show some major upfront financial viability. I believe as of now Riverside is the only one to meet that criteria.
I could be wrong. Hope it is named the Chuck Grassley Memorial Boondoggle. Hope it is a memorial soon so he can no longer embarrass his state.

3. Great, so we have the YearlyKos convention but not the caucuses?
Don't forget that Vilsack is actively working to topedo Iowa's First in the Nation Caucus status. Don't give him props for this and forget what he's doing 'behind the curtain'. :grr:
