<snip>

On the Democratic side, the contest is generally seen as a race between Waterloo lawyer Bruce Braley and former legislator and Dubuque economic-development director Rick Dickinson of Sabula.

Another candidate, Bill Gluba of Davenport, is considered a third-place finisher, while Denny Heath of Clinton will get some votes but isn't seen as viable.

<snip>

That also makes it possible this contest will go to a convention. Iowa law requires a candidate to get 35 percent of the vote in a primary to win a nomination outright.

The early money is on Braley. He's picked up a lot of labor endorsements and has tapped into the trial lawyers' lode of money. He's been called "Iowa's next Tom Vilsack" by some, which is good or bad depending on your view of the governor.

But Dickinson hasn't rolled over. Unlike Braley, he's held elective office and is a more experienced candidate. He's also picked up his share of union endorsements.

Gluba is well-liked by Democrats, particularly those who like the old-time religion from the Gospel of Hubert Humphrey. But Gluba's run before, and party insiders say good old Bill has had his turn.

<snip>

I know I went over the four paragraph limit - but the DMR makes it hard when each sentence = a paragraph!!! If you care about the republican side of the race read at the link. :7

pending a move to 'outsource' candidacy to India. Should be able to get @ 1000 there for the price of one Nussle.
