Shenandoah Mayor Gregg Connell on Friday ended his campaign for governor 10 days after he was involved in a fatal auto accident in western Iowa.
Soon after Connell was ticketed for running a stop sign in an accident that killed a man, he suspended his campaign.
"Although my desire and passion to lead Iowa remain strong, I must take a break from the demanding campaign schedule to spend time with my family and recover from the effects of this tragic accident," according to a written statement issued by Connell and his family.
Connell told authorities he ran a stop sign Nov. 8 before broadsiding 51-year-old David Juhl's car, the Pottawattamie County sheriff said.

"The absence of my name on the ballot will not, however, remove from the ballot my ideas on how to lead Iowa to an economic renaissance through the production of renewable fuel, including ethanol, biodiesel, and wind energy," Connell's written statement said Friday.
