Was much damage done in Ames by the tornadoes?
And I am worried about people in Stratford since I was just in contact with some of them because of their sesquicentennial this year.

1. I don't think so
The Iowa State football game was scheduled for kickoff at 6 that night and they evacuated the stadium before the game. The fans had to go to Hilton Coliseum (the basketball arena). I think the game was delayed a bit by the weather.

2. I was concerned since I just heard about the bad storms.
My dad and stepmother live in Ames not far from the U area. I will probably call them later on.

3. Cyclones
I don't believe Ames was damaged that badly. I read the Des Moines Register this morning and it appears that 65 homes across the area were damaged and one elderly lady was killed? Ames Police and DPS did a great job of handling the situation with tailgaters. They moved most people into the Vet Med Buildings. Was Des Moines hit at all by any of these cyclones?

4. North Dakota was hit
I was in Ames visiting my son. We were just ready to bike around town on the trails when the sirens went off. It was a super fast storm! Most of the funnels were west and north of Ames. The twisting clouds were very unusual. One of the funnels touched down on North Dakota (NW corner). We rode over there after the storms passed. Because it was dark we couldn't see much of the damage.
