Hasn't Weems ran for something in Waterloo before? The name Weems sounds very familiar.


Vernon Weems, a business consultant from Waterloo, is the latest Democrat to enter the Iowa governor's race.

GROWING FIELD: Eight Democrats are now declared candidates for their party's nomination in 2006.

'EXTREME MAKEOVER': Weems, 57, said the other candidates "merely maintain the status quo while not giving a better government. For Iowa to maintain its footing, Iowa needs an extreme makeover."

OTHERS IN THE MIX: The other Democratic contenders are former state economic development director Mike Blouin of Des Moines; Shenandoah Mayor Gregg Connell; Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver of Des Moines; state Rep. Ed Fallon of Des Moines; Iowa Agriculture Secretary Patty Judge of Albia; Sioux City engineer Sal Mohamed; and Wallingford Mayor Mark Yackle.

I wonder if Weems thought about that before he decided to jump in? And why he didn't tell anybody in Waterloo/Cedar Falls that he was running :shrug:

Weems finished well out of the picture for the third time in three bids for mayor.

"I got my ass kicked," Weems said. "I really thought more people would get my message, but I guess they didn't."
