We blasted past several other states in the last two months. The reason I mention this is that I hope activity here will translate into activism during the next election which should translate into VICTORY! next election.

1. I think that's why we've gotten so active on this board
We have the Governor's race to win, at leastthree congressional seats to take (maybe King will volunteer to go fight in Iraq??!!??). This is a great place to share information and make plans...even if we don't ever end up having that meet-up, at least we worked together to put Democrats in office. :hi:

2. And I want more!
I know I personally have posted more here in the last few months than I had ever before...and I have learned a LOT.

I know we have quite a few Iowans who drop in periodically but are very active on other portions of DU...if you are one of those and read this, say hi!

It's nice to talk to fellow Dems that follow the same races we do and know a little (in some cases a lot!) about Iowa politics.

3. Hey Seth, speaking of races...
(Yes, I am stalking you across the board :P)

What are you doing this weekend to prepare for CR's big vote?

Since I don't live in the city I don't get to vote in either Waterloo or Cedar Falls elections, I have to sit on the sidelines and watch. :(

4. Oh, no fun!
Saturday morning I am going to help with a big lit drop for one of the candidates - Justin Shields (who actually isn't in my district, but he is a great guy and a strong Democrat so I have been helping him).

As far as the candidates overall, I am a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there are a few really good ones that I think will represent Cedar Rapids well, but there wasn't the quantity I expected and not a whole lot of diversity between the candidates. I have a feeling I might be disappointed with the outcome.

I guess I was hoping for a full blown renaissance and should have maybe set my hopes a little lower.

Anyone else from CR/Marion care to comment?

6. I don't have much comment on the CR stuff
I'm in Marion and really haven't been following the changes in CR very closely. There's only one contested seat in Marion: incumbent is Mary Lou Pazour. She's been on the council for as long as I've been a resident (1997) and I think she's also trying to win a seat on the Linn County Supervisors Board. (Probably so Marion can have a bit more pull in the landfill issue.) There are two challengers: Daniel E. Abolins and Robert F. Ebeling. I went to a candidate forum Tuesday evening and was happy to find out that I couldn't tell who had an R and who had a D. :) I like it that way in local politics.

Other than that, we have two propositions which deal with the communications utility. My mailbox has been getting slammed with "vote no" information and I've been push polled at least twice. I figure any proposition which can make the telecom industry get their panties in such a wad has to be a good thing. ;)

The Cedar Rapids Public Library's Friends are having their big book sale tomorrow at the Veteran's building on Second Ave. That might be a good place to pass out campaign literature. ??
