Republican calls 'cultural continuity' - help defeat him
<http://www.dmregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040917/NEWS09/409170364/1001/NEWS>

Hispanics and a Democratic leader in Congress are blasting U.S. Rep. Steve King for calling for "cultural continuity" in the United States.

Rep. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said King's words reminded him of "a Nuremberg rally in 1933," while House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland called King's comments "misguided and offensive."

King, of Kiron, who as a state lawmaker pushed for an Iowa law recognizing English as the state's official language, said the debate over ID cards was really about the flow of immigration into the United States, according to the Congressional Record.

My two cents:

You can support his opponent - and stop Iowa's biggest embarrassment in DC - (and that says a lot with Grassley there) by donating to Joyce Schulte.

1. He is a big embarrassment
I hope Joyce is using his stupid remarks about the prison scandal against him in this election. I tried to email him about what he said but he only takes emails from local constituents. Iowans deserve better, how is Joyce doing?

2. Surprising
Joyce could sneak up on King, but unless Kerry takes Iowa by about 8 points, I don't see her winning. But, this could be one of the surprises on November 3. It is a heavy Repuke district, but he embarasses even the Republicans of western Iowa. I would look for a moderate-Repuke to take King on in the next primary if Joyce doesn't knock him off.

4. Oh god that explains a lot.
It's a wonder they had Fred Grandy represent them. Places like Orange City are plunging headfirst into the 1950's.
