Thermo Fisher in Dubuque to close
Bad news out of Dubuque. Thermo Fisher is going to close their plant here, which will result in about 350 people losing their jobs here.

1. Isn't Google or Microsoft bringing some jobs in to Dubuque?
Not that that eases the pain much.
Sorry to hear this.

2. IBM opened a new center in town
That was earlier this year where IBM moved into the top three floors of the Dubuque Building and I believe is looking to do more. I thought Microsoft was coming to Iowa, but I thought they were going to be out by Des Moines.

3. I am really sorry to hear that.
I was in Dubuque this summer for meetings and visited the downtown for the first time in many years. I couldn't believe how different it was......not even to mention the change along the river. It was very impressive. It was so good to see a town come back like that. I am sorry to hear about this setback.

I am guessing no one is saying......but if this follows normal precedence of manufacturing in the midwest.....it will end up being taken out of country. The last 30 years has been devastating to manufacturing in Eastern Iowa. I keep waiting for another shoe to drop here in CR. So far so good I think.

Dubuque gives the appearance of being up and coming back. I hope this is only a temporary setback.
