State Sen. Hartsuch Might Run Against Braley
Iowa Sen. David Hartsuch, R-Bettendorf, is circulating apetition to run for Congress, though he said today he has not made a final decision about whether to enter the race ...

“If Bruce Braley is allowed to run unopposed, this will have drastic consequences for the Republican Party in the 1st District,” Hartsuch said in the letter.

He was elected to the Iowa Senate two years ago after he successfully challenged a Republican incumbent, Maggie Tinsman of Bettendorf. He has gotten strong support from social conservatives.

1. Think he has a chance?
It looks like Braley's seat is safe, but would love to campaign for the guy. I cant wait!

2. A far right-winger from Bettendorf?
Not really representative of the 1st District (even of 1st District republicans!).

3. Saw Braley on the late night talk fest on the floor that the Dems
have from time to time. Man, he is soooo good. I would think someone would need to start with some name recognition, and a public somewhat dissatisfied with either the opponent or their party. Braley hardly has either of those impediments.

4. Harkin has new challenger
I read in the SUX Journal that former state representative George Eichhorn (who lost his seat in 2006 to McKinley Bailey) is going to enter the republican primary for Harkin's seat. Interesting - but meaningless - development.

5. HAHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah, he'll really clean up in the first district. If you think Braley's last opponent was far right, you ain't seen nothin' yet. A doctor from Bettendorf. Yup, he truly thinks like the rest of us out here. Please please please run Hartsuch. I could use a laugh or two. Iowa 1 is a lot different than Bettendorf. Example: the average house price in Bettendorf is over $200,000. Can any other city in the first district say that? I don't think so.
