Iowa Rep. Jim Nussle unveiled details Wednesday of a statewide barnstorming trip beginning June 1, when he is expected to announce his plans to seek the 2006 Republican gubernatorial nomination.

Nussle plans to begin a three-day fly-around at the Delaware County Courthouse in Manchester, which he has represented in Congress since 1993.

1. Just left Dubuque..the smell lingers, though...
Nussle on race for governor: Count me in

Democrats, Republican rival prepare to challenge congressman for 2006 race
by MARY RAE BRAGG

In his 15th year as Dubuque's representative in Congress, Jim Nussle came to town Wednesday morning to make it official: He is running for Iowa governor.

It was no surprise. There were whispers of gubernatorial aspirations even before he was re-elected last November, and in January the Republican formed a campaign committee.

Nussle, who turns 45 this month, seeks to succeed Democrat Tom Vilsack, 54, who is not seeking a third four-year term in 2006.

2. We'll see how tight Nussle and Rumsfield embrace
in Davenport later this month. I don't think running on the Administrations record is going to help him.

Dems need to get a positive plan and get moving....we can't just run against Nussle, we need to run FOR Iowa.

6. When are those two clowns coming to Davenport?
I ain't sure if I want to protest or just simply leave town on that day. I have had numerous "discussions" with one of Nussle's reps here and she still hasn't answered my questions about the Nussle- DeLay connection, probably at the request of her boss.

3. Saw him in Muscy this morning
About 50 people, not real enthusiastic. I get the feeling that area is already in Vanderplast's column.
He talked about supporting education & small business but mostly LOW TAXES! It's like every Repub has a voice box sewn in that only says low taxes. Wants world-class schools on the cheap like every other repub.
Yeah, you can still smell the stench from his visit.

7. I think we should all pray . . .
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 10:04 PM by Broke Dad
I liked the sound byte from Colorado Democratic Congresswomen Pat Schroeder several years ago on the school prayer issue, "As long as there are math tests, there will be prayer in schools."

Someone with religious credentials, like a minister who is a Democrat should ask Nussle if it is okay to pray while committing adultery if you do it in school?

VanderPlaats is the one that needs to go family values postal on Nussle.

This guy has way too much baggage. I know that people have tried to use it in the past. Somebody just needs to do a better job of posting and spreading the proof for Iowa to see.

8. I agree that Vander Platts is the one for the job
Let a Family Values Republican take Nussle to task for his past behaviors (remember what happend to Livingston after Gingrich stepped down? - they were at eachothers throats!)

It's time for a hard fought primary for Nussle.
