From Hotline's Wake Up Call....Vilsack's Presidential Numbers
A Research 2000 poll shows 43% of likely IA voters approve of Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) running for WH '08. 56% approve of his job as gov. (release).

1. I wouldn't.
I'd rather see him run for the Senate when Chuck's term is up.

2. Same here
We need two Democratic Senators here. And he's young enough to make a presidential run in a few years if he wants to.

7. Agreed
Get out in the private sector for a couple of years - save up/raise some money and hit the senate race hard.

3. Hey, I'm a big fan of Vilsack, however...
I wonder if anybody from Iowa could ever get nationwide support. You've all seen the vitriol, the condescending attitudes and and sweeping judgements and generalizations of the type of people we are here in Iowa, this from fellow some fellow DU'ers, supposedly our friends. Would it get any better? One would hope so, but the cynic in me says, no.

Hopefully, I'm wrong...somebody talk me out of this downer attitude...

6. Wish I could talk you out of it
I'm a lifelong Iowan and like it here. But man there are an awful lot of people out there who still think of us as "backwoods rubes" and stuff like that. I live in Davenport and when I hear people say that they "wish it were more like Chicago", I say "Not me. We are still friendly people here and don't need big city problems". But don't give up, this is a pretty darn good place to be, no matter what anyone thinks.

8. Our first in the nation status pisses off everyone but NH!
But I wouldn't change it for the world! I just hope we can hold on to it w/this new DNC commission. Vilsack should be VERY vocal on keeping Iowa first. Instead he is silent. Sad.

4. Senator - YES. President - ???
I didn't think he did all that well as a VP contender. I think he should stick to the Senate idea.

5. It'd be cool to see Vilsack as Prez...
...but it won't happen.

We should nominate someone else for President, get him or her elected, and then help get Vilsack elected into the Senate in 2010.

A Democratic President plus Sens Harkin and Vilsack?! OH YEAH!!!

9. Agreed (see above)
And we need to look at the fact that Harkin may not be around forever. We need to get Vilsack in the Senate seat so when Harkin retires he can help the next person get elected.

11. Maybe Democrats believe there comes a time to pass the torch
and republicans are too greedy keeping the torch for themselves that they don't want to pass it on. Maybe they never learned how to share in kindergarten?

12. They for sure didn't learn that if they
bring candy or other "num-nums" to class they have to bring for all and not just for themselves.
