Democratic Congressional Candidate Open Seat - Donate Today
<https://www.brucebraley.com/contribute_online.asp>

I am pleased to post the website for a Democratic Congressional Candidate who will be a Democratic pick up come November 2006. His first campaign contribution deadline is April 1, 2005. If possible, please donate today to show that Bruce is able to raise the necessary funds to be a winner in 2006 - $50, $20, or even $5 will help show that Bruce Braley has broadbased support for this congressional seat. Grass roots support across Iowa and across the nation will prove to Republicans that Democrats WILL WIN this seat back.

Why Can He Win?
This is a Democratic district won by John Kerry, Gov. Vilsack, and Sen. Harkin. The Republican congressman (Nussle) is leaving Congress to run for Governor. The power of incumbency is gone in this Democratic district. This is a must win if we have any chance of retaking the House in 2006. DONATE TODAY, PLEASE!

Who Is Bruce Braley?
I liken him to the Iowa John Edwards. Intelligent, Articulate, Electable, and Compassionate. You can read his bio here:

1. Good Luck to Bruce
Even though he's out of district, if my financial situation improves, I'll send something his way.

2. Is he coming to the Quad-Cities?
If so when? I'd like to talk to him and get a better feel for him and his beliefs. It says he has family here in Davenport, so maybe he'll be here soon.

3. Thank you
I spoke with him tonight. He is having several issue talking tours. His website will be listing the issue statements very soon.

I hope you can all send $10, if not more before April 1.

Thanks!

4. We are in the First District
and from Bruce's area.

He's a very personable man and a good listener (hmmm Nussle ever listened to anyone on this board?)

I've enjoyed getting to know him better since he started testing the waters and am excited about his candidacy.

Bruce also has been very active with the Iowa Trial Lawyers and I've heard is getting support from the Trial Lawyers nationally. He'll have the money to take on the republican nominee.

There is no logical reason that a Democrat is not representing the First District of Iowa in Congress. It's time to quit letting the republicans make our decisions for us.

5. He has shown little support...
He has shown little support in the 1st District...most of his money comes from Trial Lawyers from Des Moines.

6. How so?
Any specific figures you can point to in support of your claim?

From what I hear Bruce has a lot of support from county chairs in the 1st District and also from the party in DC who have said that his fundraising is tops of any open seat Democrat.

Strange and disheartening to hear anti-trial lawyer slang in the Iowa forum. The Iowa Trial Lawyer Association does as much, if not more, than any other group to support civil rights and fair employment practices in our state. Bruce should be proud of all of the support he receives from trial lawyers.

Welcome to DU cooperscooper.

7. I don't think negative campaigning is necessary here
and would disagree that Bruce has shown little support for the First District.

He is an active Democrat who supported and worked for the John Edwards campaign here in Waterloo, he attends the Black Hawk County Central Committee meetings and events (and did so before he announced he was running for congress) and has contributed to the Iowa Democratic Party, DNC, Senator Harkin, Senator Daschle, Veterans PACs and John Kerry as well as the Trial Lawyers before he decided to run for congress.

Well over $10,000 contributed by the Braley family of Waterloo Iowa over the past few years. Pretty impressive record of support.

8. Was just stating a fact...
Not trying to offend anyone, just trying to contribute to the discussion by stating a fact.

I don't have a problem with trial lawyers and you don't have to defend them to me...but Mike Whalen and the Republicans sure don't like trial lawyers very much. In fact, they'd love nothing more than to make Tort Reform the issue in this campaign.

Whalen is already railing on the issue on his website. You can see his video if you have a microsoft media player.

9. Mike Whalen also wants to privatize social security and take on
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 02:51 PM by Debi
Tom Harkin.......Needless to say I really don't care what Mike Whalen and the republicans think of any of our candidates. Do you think they're going to ignore the other two candidates (Gluba and Dickinson) because they're not trial lawyers?

Whalen, Kennedy and Dix are dirty players and they will have the full support of the Iowa Republican Party, NRCC and the RNC in this race. They will stop at nothing to smear each of our candidates during the primary and attack the nominee full force come the day after the primary.

If you think the largest money raiser of the campaign to date is at the highest risk so be it. Trial lawyers have nothing to be ashamed of and should be working the District hard should Braley get the nomination. (Oh, and FYI as the wife of a trial lawyer I do feel the need to defend them and their PAC any time someone implies that being associated with them is a negative.)

Edited for redundancy!
