What could we do to get AirAmerica in eastern Iowa
Or any part for that matter? I saw in the Illinois forum that AA radio was coming to Chicago. We might actually be able to get it. It is 1690 AM. I think I can pull them in.
But to Iowa. ClearChannel has a bunch of Iowa stations (1040 WHO desmoines, 1420 WOC davenport, KXEL 1540 waterloo, 800 kxic) most of these carry the RW shouters and have low ratings. Clearchannel has been putting Air America on in many markets recently to boost ratings. I got on ClearChannels website one day but saw no place to email them. I know email the local stations is useless since they get their marching orders from the corporate office.

1. I'm with you,

but I don't expect AAR in this area anytime soon. Too bad because eastern Iowa is a very blue section of red-state Iowa, especially Davenport and Scott county. There is a market for lib radio here but like you said Clear Channel has a lock on it. So don't hold your breath.

2. Petition, petition, petition.
That is what seems to have worked for cities in Texas...

5. I dont know exactly, but
I do know "they" (several liberal groups and local dem party officials) circulated the petitions via emails and put them up on prominent liberal web sites.

My own idea (actually borrowed from other domains :-) thanks to the freeway blogger): put up a freeway sign asking Air America to come!

4. Same as us in western Iowa

But, they are up to 51 stations now! Central or eastern Iowa are bound to get one before we do out here in freeperland.

6. I'd love to see AAR take over programming for WMT
Much more of the RW shrill and mindless recipe hour and I might go off the deep end.

If and when you find something we can do to make it happen, be sure to let me know. I'll help any way I can.

8. WMT would be great!
It's got a strong signal and would carry the shows to a lot of people in Eastern Iowa.

10. Great Idea!
Then we could all listen to it. WMT would be perfect.

7. KFJB 1230 AM out of Marshalltown is an independant station
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 07:38 PM by pstans
I am pretty sure that KFJB AM 1230 is an independenat station. I live in Marshalltown and KFJB has Tony Snow on from 9-12 and Hannity on from 2-5. I think that they could maybe be swayed to put a progrssive show on in one of those time slots. After 6 pm and on the weekends, they have ESPN radio, which is a little nuts since there is ESPN radio out of Des Moines. I am pretty sure that their signal reaches Ames, Des Moines, and maybe even Cedar Rapids. That is a nice population base.

Here is their website.

11. I emailed them yesterday
I told them I thought it would be a good idea to get Ed Shultz on their station. Maybe we could get a lot more to do this, they may go for it.

9. Ummm...
apparently AAR is coming to the Quad-Cities. There is a thread in this very forum which has a link contained in it. I tssems that AM 1270 in Rock Island, IL is picking it up. People in C.R. and Iowa City most likely won't be able to get it, but we in the Quad-Cities are eastern Iowa. In actuality, the station is listed in Rock Island, but the studios are in Davenport. You may as well forget about WOC, WMT, KXIC, etc. getting it. They have a lot of wattage and are still clear channel stations. 1270, WKBF, is also a clear channel station, but I imagine their ratings are crap. So if you can, listen to them once AAR starts up and show them that progressive radio will work.

12. been listening all week and it's heaven
don't have to put up with NPR and their right wing disguised as "moderate" anymore. Halleluliah.
WKBF in RI. Just about carries to Iowa City in the daylight. They've been a totally crap station for a long time. It's one of the stations that is sacrificed to Christmas music starting on Nov. 1 each year.
