Could any of you please help this pair of peace activist teens?
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 12:08 PM by SaveAmerica
They're coming through Indiana on their way to Washington in the next month, they've walked from Cali and their goal is to be in DC by September 11. If you or anyone you know in Indiana is involved in any Democratic groups, maybe you can walk part of their route with them? Bring them some food along the way or any kind of help you can give them to help them reach their goal (sunscreen? new shoes? $5? every little bit helps). I really think it would boost their morale to have others walking with them, though. Many groups can tag team walks with them through the different counties of Indiana - thanks everyone!!

PS the article mentions the web page where you can track their location to get an idea of where and when they'll be.

2. Where did you find the dates where they
will be? I looked on the common dreams site and all I found was the article about them as they passed through Colorado and Nebraska.

Thanks!

3. They're coming through Speedway? Cool!
If they stay on schedule, I'll plan to walk with them on Monday, August 6. I'll put out the invite to the Wayne Township Democratic Club as well, to recruit additional folks.
Thanks for the heads up!

6. Ashley and Michael cross the state line Aug. 4
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070727/ap_on_re_us/peace_walkers_1

Ashley Casale, 19, of Clinton Corners, N.Y., and Michael Israel, 18, of Jackson, Calif., had hoped others who oppose the war in Iraq would join them on their 3,000-mile walk from San Francisco to Washington.

However, since they started off May 21, it's just been the two of them for the most part.

"Although it's always nice to have as many people as possible, it's more about the message and we haven't been disappointed there aren't tons of people walking," Casale said.

It wasn't what Casale planned when she started a Web site and sent fliers to colleges nationwide to promote what she called the "March for Peace." Still, after 1,600 miles and three pairs of sandals, she seemed satisfied with the march's progress.

9. A great opportunity is coming your way.
The my neighbor DUers in Indiana. A great opportunity for you is coming your way. I live in Bloomington, Illinois. I was fortunate to have the honor of hosting this group at my home this past Monday. A friend of mine further east along their route had the privilege of hosting them for two nights (he brought them back from their latest progress point to stay at his house an additional night and then dropped them off the next morning).

While it made me feel good to do my small part in helping these kids in their cause, I received much more than I gave. I garnered inspiration for my own efforts and activities, I made new lifelong friends, I found that there are still people to be found that can be looked up to and admired, and most of all I REJUVENATED MY HOPE.

My daughter and grandson benefited greatly from their experience in helping out, getting involved and realizing that even the smallest actions can have great importance. These kids that are conducting their march for peace have become like my own kids. I care for them. I feel responsible for them. I hope to find others to help them along their way.

So, I encourage you to give these kids a helping hand. Help yourselves to a heaping helping of positives. Help us all.

You can contact Ashley en route on her cell phone. (845) 264-3912.

13. I had the honor of meeting up with Ashley, Michael and the rest to the marchers in Richmond India
Kimberly and I had the honor of meeting up with Ashley, Michael and the rest of the marchers in Richmond Indiana this after noon. It was a privilege to see their dedication.

I hope that the tomatoes and other garden produce I donated to their cause fuels a few miles of their march.

14. Hi Madhoosier!
Welcome to DU! :hi:

Overall I think they received a positive reaction from Richmond. I saw a lot of people giving the thumbs-up sign and honking in support.
