Hang on to your wallets, landline users...
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 07:34 AM by BiggJawn
Heard on the Glass Tit this AM that Our Bitch Mitch is just itching to sign the Tele-con (that's not a typo) "Reform" bill into law, that will "Give us more'n our own MUNNY" back through "Competition"...

I live in a town that has about 1,000 households. Who in their right mind is going to "Compete" for service HERE?

We don't even have "Digital Cable" available.

I can see the telecom giants fighting over communities with 50,000-300,000 households and maybe those folks will see amazing things for "pennies a day", but out here in the sticks?

35 years ago, when SBC was Indiana Bell and I lived out on Rural Free Delivery Route 5, we had a 4-party open-wire line for phone service.
Yep, we shared ONE phone line with THREE other families! And the open line was a real joy when it rained, and the trees would get wet and rub up against the wires and make noise, and hum, or short them out completely....

Fiber Optic HDTV Cable? Cheaper telephone service? High-speed internet? And all at a low price?

Not here in Cornfield, Indiana.

1. Which is why I don't plan on getting one
Granted, that means I have to make sure that wherever I move to has a good Cingular signal, but it beats paying through the nose for a land line that I'll never use (except to look at the caller ID to ignore telemarketers).

2. I'm done with them, too.
My twisted pair costs me $42 a month right now. I can get wireless broadband for $39 a month (plus the $150 hook-up fee, which I think is a rip-off) and AFAIC, I'm at the break point. another dollar on the phone bill, and I'll EAT the $150 install fee and tell CenturyTel to GFT and get Vonage or something like that if I feel like I HAVE to have a phone to look at.
That pre-paid cellie of mine looks better and better every day...
