Bayh's Response to my email re: Alito
My email was sent Jan. 14th. No one expects anything but a canned response, but this is just ridiculous. See if you notice the glaring disparity. My only expectation was that Bayh at least give the appearance of being on top of things. This email shows either he or his staff may be dropping the ball.

Dear Mr. XXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me regarding President Bush's recent nomination of Samuel Alito Jr. to the United States Supreme Court. I appreciate your thoughts and concerns on this issue. Please be assured that I take my duty to give advice and consent on Presidential appointments very seriously, and will carefully review this nominee. I look forward to learning more about Judge Alito during his confirmation hearings which began on January 9, 2005.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope the information I have provided is helpful. My website, http://bayh.senate.gov , can provide additional details about legislation and state projects, and you can also sign up to receive my monthly e-newsletter, The Bayh Bulletin , by clicking on the link at the top of my homepage. I value your input and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues important to you.

1. ridiculous.
At the very least, he had better vote no.

2. I can't read whether it is good or bad that he will not take a
public position on this. Given his past he seems to be waiting to find out which way the wind blows.

3. I think you are right.
I'm going to e-mail him. I hope I don't get the same reply referencing the hearings that are OVER.

It's a freakin' TEMPLATE. I don't know who's worse, Eyeben Baught or Dick Lugar.

Lugar writes you "Thank you for your letter, I will give it my utmost attention, and by the way, did you know I serve on the following committees...."

At least when I told Robert Byrd that I wished he was my Senator, the aide that wrote the reply invited me to consider emigrating to WV....:)

6. As if the template weren't bad enough...
According to the tallies at the close of today's session, Bayh was STILL undeclared on Scalito. What gives? He was one of the few who stood up against Roberts (and he declared his opposition to that thug early on). I just don't get the hesitation with the king-maker.

7. I just called Bayh's office re: Alito
He has not made a statement yet. I expressed my opinion "no" on Alito, "yes" to fillibuster.

8. Bayh Was In Iraq
during most of the hearings. He has had to spend time studying the information on hand.

If you're a Bayh hater then it doesn't matter what he does you'll find fault with it.

In my opinion and feel for it.....he'll more than likely vote no.

I write and hear from both Bayh and Lugar all the time. Sometimes I get form like letter but most of the time my letters from Bayh are written by him and very personalized. Lugar not so much.
