Hey Indiana ... want to win in 2006?
The 2006 mid-terms elections are now less than one year away. We are faced with the great opportunity to take back one or both houses of Congress, or at the least gain a few seats. The country is ready for a change and Democrats are the candidates best suited to advance those changes. We, the evilDUers, the grassroots, the groovers on the underground funkroad, WE are the ones who can empower our party!

"Ok so what?" you may say. "What can I do about it?" Well, the first thing I want EVERYONE to do is go to www.ourcongress.org and check on your district. This is a fantastic website - good layout, good info, and good links. It is clean and easy to use, but it is lacking people committed to keeping the information up-to-date. There are competitive races that haven't been updated since the last election cycle! Go there real quick, check up on your district, and do what you can. If someone is running in your district but isn't listed, make a quick post and share a link. If a nasty Repug is stinking it up and noone knows about, post it. If you've got time, look at the other districts and maybe give them a helping hand too. If you've got money, drop $10 or $20 to worthy candidates. We need to target EVERY district. NO GOoPer should run unopposed. If we run an aggressive campaign in every district, we WILL take back the congress and put this country back on the right path. (check this out ;) )

Next on the list - go to the research forum AND your state forum to find out more about our situation. What are the districts and states we can take back? Who is the incumbent? Who is the challenger? Do you have info that isn't posted or see something that isnt up-to-date?

Last - find a few good candidates that you support and send them some money. Its a sad truth but it takes money and lots of it to beat incumbent bush-bots. A few $$$ can make a big difference!

OK thanks for reading this whole thread. If you agree, read, kick and vote. PEACE!
-Alec

1. Both 8 and 9 are winnable
Hostettler never gets more than 55% in the 8th, and 2004 was the first time in a while he face serious competition. Not that the party on the national level gave a shit, mind you, but with better organization, we can send that worthless sack of shit back to Evansville.

9. Isn't Hill running for 9th?
Last I heard, Baron Hill was running to reclaim the 9th. Anyone know if he's still in?

11. He is running
and has a very good chance. GOP coattails are getting thinner and thinner - and folks are now pretty savvy to the little "HoosiersforTruth" tactic used in the last days against Hill.

2. Why are the Democrats not challenging Senator Lugar (R-IND) in '06?
The Indianapolis Star recently published a story saying that the Dems could not find anyone to run against Lugar.

Nothing like forfeiting a game before kickoff!

3. Who, though?
Lugar is opoular, and has mounds of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to spend. Bart Peterson, maybe? That's the only state politician I can think of that's not Joe Kernan.

4. Lugar is just a rubber stamp for Bush
He can be wounded if he is relentlessly attacked on his dismal record, and his longevity in Washington. It's time for change!

5. Heartily agree.
With his 30 year history he has simply proved to be one of
those who goes along to get along. With the present day
"culture of corruption" that exists in Congress. One can
only ask, is any member part of the solution or part of
the problem? In Lugar's case he has proved he is either
unwilling or unable to offer any change or solution to
the problem and blindly follows the leadership of his
party irrespective of the interests of his constituents
or the best interest of this nation.

6. Which might work
Unfortunately, it would also take a serious infusion of cash to get that message out. I would love to see it happen, but who is going to pony up the money?

7. Depends
wholly upon who will be a candidate. Something
awfully strange going on with the silence of the
state party at this point. It will be an entirely
different situation after the results of the circular
firing squad now being formed by the GOP at the national
level. I think time is on our side right now and can
only hope a move at the appropriate time will be to
our advantage. If it is the right person at the right
time, money will certainly be important but not impossible.

10. This is a longshot, but...
Are any Repukes going to develop some independence and challenge him in May? If so, keep in mind we have open primaries.

8. First, we have to overcome THIS:
From 'LetItOut', Monday 1.9.06:

"... Don't you people get it yet? These Democrats don't care about any of you at all, ever. It's all about being in power and telling you what to do because they think they're all smarter than you."

Ok, I realize the writer is probably a crackpot, but there is some insight to his rant.
At least, that's how Joe and Jane SixPack tend to see us -- and the GOP exploits it masterfully -- their intimidation by and resentment of 'those uppity Democrats'.

Now, how can we address and overcome it, and show folks of all education and socio-economic levels, that the Dems have a better plan ?

And yeah, I know, calling them "Joe and Jane SixPack" didn't help. :hide:

12. and yet Mitches... toll way or no highway
effort that would not only create I69 as a tollroad - but would SELL it to corporate investors (that old economic eminent domain would have to be used to buy a whole lot of farm land) - and would make folks who currently drive from Bedford on north to Indy have to PAY to drive what is now a free (aside from taxes) highway? And have you seen how steep the toll increases across the Indiana Toll road are proposed to climb in the next couple of years? THAT isn't elitism by the ruling? Geez. :eyes:

14. That's a nice albatross...
People tend to, you know, hate having to dump coins into booths to drive around.

13. Think this pretty well defines
privatization as practiced by this administration:

"The law doth punish man or woman
That steals the goose from off the common,
But lets the greater felon loose,
That steals the common from the goose."
Anonymous 1764

It's all about public risk and private gain that
is so successfully being practiced in professional
sports. It is now time to extend that practice to
other aspects of public services.
