“From Guantanamo to the Statehouse: Human Rights in 2005”
Noit sure if this is a members' only event, or if it's sold out ... but it sounds fascinating. I just heard about it Thursday. :(

Please mark your calendar for Saturday, October 15th, when ICLU will be holding our annual conference and dinner at the Downtown Indianapolis Hilton Hotel.

The daylong conference will include lawmakers, professors, journalists, activists and the ICLU legal team discussing student rights, race and criminal justice, GLBT issues, reproductive freedom, civil liberties after 9/11 and religious freedom.

Also, the Indiana Supreme Court Commission on Race and Gender Fairness invites ICLU Conference attendees to a distinguished lecture featuring Civil Rights Activist and Entertainer/Musician Harry Belafonte. Click here to read about Mr. Belafonte's dedication to civil rights and the 2005 Diversity Summit. The cost and transportation of attending this event is included in the price of conference registration.

That evening, our day will continue at the ICLU Annual Dinner. The keynote speaker is Lucas Guttentag, a leading advocate in a vital issue ripped from the daily headlines.

Mr. Guttentag, the director and founder of ACLU's Immigrants Rights Project, represents the Iraqi and Afghan torture victims who have filed suit in U.S. federal court. Despite widespread international outrage over the abuse of detainees in U.S. military custody, no serious investigation has been conducted of high-level responsibility for these atrocities. Guttentag, his clients and his co-counsel—who include leading human rights attorneys and former military judges—intend to remedy that lack of accountability.

ICLU members and contributors will get a formal invitation in the mail soon, but reservations for the entire day’s events, including a reception and dinner, can be made for $150 to susan.smith@iclu.org. Conference-only registration is available for the low price of $20 for students and $35 for non-students.
