Is there a looming educational crisis in Indiana?
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 11:10 PM by izzybeans
My mother's district is loosing 1.2 mil in a small district. They aren't sure what to do.

On Edit: Perhaps a new approach to counteract the childish generalizations coming from this being put in the latest conference page.

As I no longer live in Indiana I was hoping someone could fill me in on the details of the proposed state budget relative to its impact on school districts at the local level. I understand education saw cuts last year. In the above district teacher funding lines were cut drastically, special needs services were halved, and technological services digressed nearly a decade. The current cut, on top of the already $600,000 axed from this small district for this year will be devastating.

1. There's a looming crisis in funding everywhere
not just in Indiana.

12. Sorry I don't know any specifics
about what is going on in Indiana. I just know that funding for education is a great concern nationwide.

also known as my bitch Mitch. He has proposed cutting current levels of funding, which were already too low, and not raising funding in the next budget. He is also cutting a lot of programs used in schools. He will go after teachers unions, too. On top of that, payments from the state to schools were made late the last two years because of the property tax mess, causing schools to take out loans to pay their teachers and staff.

What I understand at this moment is that not all of his proposals have gone through, however, most districts are losing a lot of money and beginning to lay off teachers.

The next year or so will be very interesting for Indiana concerning education.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure people will wake up until they try to cut basketball. :eyes:

edit: spelling

10. Cutting basketball? in INDIANA???
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 12:20 PM by BiggJawn
Excuse my disbelief, izzy, but cutting basketball in Indiana would be like the Church cutting out Communion.

A few years ago, Purdue U "got stiffed" for about 3 million on a summer payment, with the promise that it would be made up when things got better. Now here comes Mah Bitch Mitch ("The Blade") telling Jische that he's going to have to do the same with less this year. the Master Plan towards Pre-Emminence does not call for staying in the same place, it calls for moving foward. Guess things haven't gotten better...

Now, the "Campaign for Purdue" has raised a lot of bucks, but none of it is earmarked for boring day-to-day shit, like light bulbs, toilet paper, service sector salaries...

It's gonna be tight. It's even tighter in Primary and Secondary Ed. Budgets are staying the same, while all costs except Labour go up. Only the White House can spend money that isn't there and make it work.

11. Oh I agree, I guess I was being metaphorical
but they are seriously considering cutting a large chunk out of the sports budget. They can't afford to loose more teachers.

I grew up playing basketball in Indiana. I know the rabid nature of it all. I used to have a coach who confused himself for Bobby Knight on a daily basis.

i have found it useful:

One of masson's latest posts seems to point to this being a subterfuge to get --!surprise!-- more VOUCHER options.

I see though that George's Bitch Mitch is getting a new RV to roam the state one day a week. Hope he gets a few flat tires.
