Il House Judiciary Committee hearing on DP abolition bill, today!
from email from The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty:

The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty has an Illinois House Judiciary Committee hearing on their abolition bill – SB 3539 – today(Tuesday, November 30)!

We have never been closer to repeal in Illinois.

Legislators may vote on the bill tomorrow after the hearing so there is no time to spare –
take action today, even if they’ve already contacted them.

Each Illinois Legislator could be the one who puts them over the top, but they need to hear from constituents in Illinois!

Illinois residents should please click here to email and call your Legislators:

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=G0vWiC2e5Ri89BJuFue1%2BdiySWtLHrNA

Tell them: “I’m a constituent and I want you to repeal the death penalty.” Just that short message will go a long way, or you can tell them more about why you think the death penalty is wrong for Illinois.

***

and PLEASE spread the word!!

Thank you!!

5. House adjourned without action on the bill. More time to act, now!
Please take action, and please spread the word!!

(from email)

UPDATE - December 1, 2010

Yesterday, we won an important victory when the Illinois House Judiciary Committee voted to recommend passage of SB 3539 – the death penalty repeal bill.

We have never been closer to repeal in Illinois. Now is still the time to take action!

Today, the Illinois House adjourned without taking action on the bill -- but they return to work in early January for yet another "lame duck" session, and we need to keep the pressure on! Your friends and family in Illinois can still take action at www.ncadp.org/IllinoisAction.

We're very close, so any Illinois Legislator could be the one who puts them over the top. Please forward this email to your contacts in Illinois and ensure that during December, lawmakers in Illinois, including the governor, know that repealing the death penalty right now is a top priority.

Illinois residents should please click here to email and call your Legislators:

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=FZ%2F%2FDQscKnhVgCPpi9vJH4HJTFIyzMbZ

Tell them: “I’m your constituent and I want you to repeal the death penalty.” Just that short message will go a long way, or you can tell them more about why you think the death penalty is wrong for Illinois.

We have been working with the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty for repeal for years. We know we’ve asked you to take action several times already, but we need to show legislators in Illinois that their constituents are watching every step of the way. Please have your Illinois friends, family and colleagues call and email this month!

Remember, we need you to forward this email to your friends and contacts in Illinois – so Illinois legislators hear from Illinois constituents.

Thank you!

Thank you, all. Please spread word!!
