Protesting BP America's Corporate HQ in Warrenville, Illinois - July 19th

HOLDING BRITISH PETROLEUOM ACCOUNTABLE

Join Us in Protesting BP's N.American Corporate HQ in Warrenville, Illinois - on July 19th!!!

On April 20, 2010, The Deepwater Horizon, owned and operated by Transocean Ltd., and leased to British Petroleum, PLC, exploded and sunk in the Gulf of Mexico, killing eleven employees and injuring seventeen others, and caused an ongoing catastrophic oil spill that endangers the area's fishing culture, threatens its tourism industry, and jeopardizes the entire Gulf coast ecosystem.

British Petroleum must be held accountable and pay the appropriate restitution to those who they've harmed, as well as for the clean-up of their massive oil spill: If the company, in light of the Supreme Court's recent ''Citizens United'' ruling, is to enjoy the same Constitutional rights and privileges as does the American people, the company must also share in the responsibilities that real people must endure.

And that means BP must take full responsibility for the things that the company does, and has done.

We can not, and will not, sit idly by and let the American taxpayers get stuck paying the tab for British Petroleum's negligence, nor share too much concern in regards to the company's stockholders failing fortunes while those who've been genuinely harmed by this catastrophe are still seeking justice.

On July 19th, the Rockford Coffee Party will be rallying in Cerny Park, located in beautiful suburban Warrenville, Illinois, which is the home of BP America's North American corporate headquarters, as well as Warrenville's largest single employer.

Following our rally in the park, we will then march to the corporate offices of BP America, and let them know what we think of their corporate business model.

We are calling out to all Americans tired of seeing corporations relentlessly rape our waters and despoil our wild places and then demand that we pay the costs for their excesses to join us, on July 19th, in Cerny Park.

If British Petrleum's response to the colossal oil spill they are responsible for is any indicator, British Petroleum may not care one way or the other when we are standing outside their corporate office doors.

But they certainly will know that we're there.

THE DETAILS

Rockford Coffee Party members will all meet at Katie's Cup, (a local cafe in Rockford, Illinois) on July 19th, at 8:00 AM.

From there, (at appx. 8:30 AM) we will car pool over to Congressman Don Manzullo's Rockford office, located at 415 S. Mulford Road, in Rockford, and present his secretary with a copy of our HOLDING BP RESPONSIBLE RESOLUTION. I have already talked with the lady who works in his office, so she wouldn't be blindsided by our suddenly showing up on her bosses' doorstep.

IMMEDIATELY after presenting our copy of the Resolution to the Congressman's staff, we will enjoy a good hour on the road as we all head over to Cerny Park, located in beautiful Warrenville, Illinois, where we will adress the press and those who wish to protest BP's corporate irresponsibility with prepared statements. Anyone interested in carpooling up to Warrenville with us should contact me at RockfordCPM@aol.com, ASAP, for details in how to meet up with someone from The Rockford Coffee Party and get transportation to Warrenville.

Unless our time table is way off, we should arrive in Warrenville's Cerny Park right around 10:30 AM, where, hopefully, more than five people will have shown up. There's plenty of parking.

At the rally, we will read prepared statements to the assembled crowd, and talk to the press (if any of the media bother to show up, that is).

Following our rally in the park, we will march one mile to the corporate offices of BP America, and let them know just what we think of their corporate business model.

I urge everyone who is interested in the nuts and bolts of just how this is going to play out to attend our pre-scheduled July 17th noon meeting at Katies Cup where we'll be passing out informational memos, and hammering out the last minute details.

We're still looking for volunteers to act as crossing guards for our march to BP America's corporate offices and to police the park after the rally has concluded.

The link provided at the bottom of of this post leads to a very detailed Google Maps photo image of the planned 1.1 mile walking route which we will be taking from Cerny Park to BP's corporate offices.
