Obama Moves DNC Operations to Chicago
Obama moves DNC operations to Chicago

Ben Smith, Politico

In a major shakeup at the Democratic National Committee -- and a departure from tradition -- large parts of the committee's operations are relocating to Chicago to be fully integrated with the Obama campaign.

The DNC's political department, housed in Washington, D.C., will be dramatically rebuilt, with staffers offered a choice of moving to Chicago, joining state operations, or staying in Washington, DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney said.

But the power will clearly be shifting to a centralized Chicago hub.

The DNC's key role in coordinating political operations with state parties is expected to largely be taken over and overseen by Obama's senior staff in Chicago, state party officials said...

2. I think it might have more to do with the fact that Obama's kids
go to school here. Maybe I'm wrong.

3. hmmm
that seems a little lame. i want to see that as a good thing. but lots of other people will be leaving their kids behind to come here for a campaign. doesn't seem like a very barack reason.

and just to clarify- i actually like ritchie. i don't really care how many other people think he is a slimeball, or whatever. i just know that before his reign, practically no one came here for vacations, and we were on the verge of losing a lot of conventions as well. no one in their right mind was downtown after dark. now i know college kids who feel free to drink till 4 am and walk home to their downtown dorms. they feel safe. live theater was circling the drain when he was elected, and now we need a hall of fame to hold all the jeff awards. downtown has exploded with restaurants, when that industry also was hanging by a thread.
he stuck his neck out to get things done, sometimes even swerving around the red tape, and to the letter procedure, to do big things. if you don't ever piss people off when you are in his job, you are not doing the people's business.
i think the city is humming, and he gets most of the credit.

4. Amen to that!
Both my girls live there, and they would not want to live anywhere else. The rest of the state does not seem to have the employment that Chicago does. The arts are alive and well there. That is why my oldest lives there: she is a musician.

I like Ritchie. He gets things done.

P.S. I can remember when people used to refer to his dad as "the real Mayor Daley, and the younger as "Ritchie." I don't think we should call him Ritchie any more. I think he has earned the title of Mayor Daley.

From taking care of the needs of citizens, to economic development, the man is a World Class mayor.
No system is perfect, but Mayor Daley has proven himself to be a top flight manager.

7. In my quest to find a human at the DNC in Chicago...
I called information and nothing was listed. So, I called the DNC headquarters in DC. They didn't know the number, but placed me on hold and finally gave me the number for the Illinois Dems in Springfield. After being placed on hold AGAIN, they gave me the number.

Great.

So I called it twice over the past hour. The phone rings and rings. Finally a message comes on about, "Your party does not pick up. Please try again later."

Doesn't give me much confidence. How 'bout you?

8. I went to the Obama office to volunteer and found out it no longer exists.
They had a phone number and answered right away and told me you can't volunteer in the office but you can volunteer. They seemed very organized. I think the reason Obama has no volunteer office has to do with safety and nutbags. But, I could be wrong.
