Senator Hendon: The type of Democrat we don't need!
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 07:19 AM by undercoverduer
Please let Senator Hendon know how you feel about his behavior: hendon@senatedem.state.il.us

He is not up for re-election this year but I think he deserves a challenge his next time around! He is an Assistant Majority Leader, it might not be bad idea to let the Senate President know how you feel: jones@senatedem.state.il.us

Hendon tackles female colleague at game

April 6, 2006

BY DAVE MCKINNEY Sun-Times Springfield Bureau Chief

SPRINGFIELD -- State Sen. Rickey Hendon's conduct toward a woman again became an issue when he unexpectedly tackled a south suburban female lawmaker after this week's House-Senate softball game.

"I was shocked; that was my take. It came out of nowhere. We were in a line, saying 'Good game. Good game. Good game.' Then, he just came behind me and threw me on the ground," said state Rep. Robin L. Kelly (D-Matteson).

"I was very angry. I've calmed down now. But I thought it was very inappropriate," said the two-term lawmaker, who did not play and was dressed in work clothes when Hendon made contact with her.

And just last week he had to apologize for comments to another female colleague:

Hendon: Sorry about 'hazing'

March 29, 2006

SPRINGFIELD -- An assistant majority leader in the state Senate apologized Tuesday for sexually suggestive remarks he made a day earlier to a first-year colleague.

Chicago Democrat Rickey Hendon told Sen. Cheryl Axley he was sorry for comments he made during the ''hazing'' that occurs when rookies call their debut legislation.

The Mount Prospect Republican's proposal dealt with township government roads. Hendon, a senator since 1993, asked Axley whether her hair is naturally blonde, then asked if the 46-year-old newcomer would go ''on a township road with me later on tonight.''

1. There's a new chapter to the story

Frankly, I don't think Hendon is too different from at least half the men in the General Assembly. He is just being less discrete than the others. Sexism, sexual harassment and philandering are commonplace. I feel sorry for any attractive woman who has to be a lobbyist for the Illinois legislature.
