Democrats get in line to vie for Hyde’s seat
By Marni Pyke
Daily Herald Staff Writer
Posted Monday, December 12, 2005

While congressional hopeful state Sen. Peter Roskam likely will fly solo in the upcoming Republican primary to replace the venerable Henry Hyde, Democrats could face a crowd...

...Democrats Christine Cegelis of Rolling Meadows and Wheaton College professor Lindy Scott are set to run for Hyde’s spot. What’s unclear is whether Maj. Tammy Duckworth, an Illinois National Guard officer being courted by national Democrats, will join the race later this week. Duckworth of Hoffman Estates was wounded and lost both her legs in Iraq. Duckworth’s husband Bryan Bowlsbey said his wife is listed on active-duty status and as such can’t get involved in politics at the moment.

Cegelis, the likely Democratic front-runner if Duckworth doesn’t run, said she’s ignoring the mixed messages from her party. “It’s disappointing, but what can you do?” she said. Scott, however, thinks he can pull off an upset. “I reach out well across the board,” he said...

So where did this guy Lindy Scott come from?

1. Take a look.

It looks like he is on his own on this one. He is a professor at Wheaton College. He is definitely not backed by anyone in the Democratic leadership.

2. he's been in for a while
but i don't think he is a big threat. he's only raised about $20,000. i don't think he turned in his petitions yesterday, making cegalis first on the ballot.
