Need a shout out from all the Idaho DUer's
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 06:07 AM by EvolveOrConvolve
I'm just trying to get a count of how many of the 80,000+ DUer's are from Idaho. A get together with some of us rational folk in the 208 would be cool. I'd like a first name and city at least.

I'll start: my name is Joe and I'm a proud Democrat in Boise, Idaho.

1. not many, if this folder is any clue
I generally post Idaho-related topics of any significance to GD (General Discussion) or LBN (Latest Breaking News). The election may get the traffic up here a bit, hopefully...

2. Jessica in Pocatello.
VP of the ISU College Democrats. I will start writing the web address for DU on the chalk board in our meeting room to see if I can get anymore people.

What races are you all focused on in Idaho? I am focused on Superintendent (big fan of Jana), Controller (I love Jackie), and Jim Hansen, though he will lose.

3. I'm very focused on getting Larry Grant into congress
I've met him and he seems sincere and thoughtful. Bill Sali, on the other hand, (who I've also met and was my rep in the Idaho Legislature) is a complete moron and a total asshole.

I know several big money Republican donors who are avoiding Sali's campaign this year. They may not vote for Grant, but they're not voting for Sali either.

We need to get more Idaho Dems involved here at DU. The state of the Democratic party in Idaho is more organized than it was even 5 or 6 years ago, and we've started to connect on a personal level with voters who are starting to realize that the Idaho Republican party is a party of the corporations and special interest groups rather than the party of the people. What we need is a good old fashioned populist revolt among the rural voters.

4. Shane sometimes in Boise
I have rental properties in Boise. I live in San Francisco.
I did live in the North End for a while and commuted back and
forth but that got old especially with all of the new airport
hassles. I really love Boise and Idaho and try to get up there
as often as possible.

5. So there are three of us
(with a part-timer from San Fran)? I'd expected a better representation from the 208.

6. We have a few others who haven't checked in with this thread
I haven't met either Larry Grant or Bill Sali, but I've seen enough of Sali to hope Idaho doesn't continue its tradition of sending unqualified whackos to Washington. Steve Symms and Helen (remember the Black HEEL-uh-copters?) Cheneweth were more than enough for one generation.

I'd also like to see Larry LaRocco give Jim Risch the boot for Lt. Gov. Hell, I'd like to see anyone give The Little General the boot..

7. There are a few more which I've seen around
I'm not (down in Texas), but have seen a few more than who post occasionally here on DU. As I recall most are Boise which isn't surprising considering the size the town is relative to the rest of the state.

10. LD from Coeur d'Alene
Better to reply late, than never, right? :) I just moved here this summer, and drive by the Democratic headquarters everyday on the way to work, but haven't stopped in yet. Maybe next week! I'm still trying to learn about everything we're voting on in this county, and getting to know who's in the races. Again...better late than never...;)

11. New in West Boise
Yes there are liberals in this end of town! I moved here from Maryland just over a year ago, and sure hope that Larry Grant can pull it off. Sali is the worst of the worst. I stopped by the Meridian Republicans for Grant office today to see about getting a yard sign and was told there were no more available and no more would be printed. Too bad. I wonder why the national party is not helping Larry out? The GOP realizes that their bad candidate Sali is no sure thing and have bankrolled his campaign to the max. Not to mention the special interest outside funding that bought him the primary win. Put me down for a get-together!

14. I'm here
Hello everybody, I'm Randy, I live in Northeast Blaine County.

I feel that the most critical issue facing Idaho today is where to put "The Ten Commandments" monument.
Personally, I'd like to see it moved to a different location on a monthly basis. Wouldn't it look great in Wal-Mart? It would be quite the illuminating experience, being able to take a dive into my inner conscience and take inventory of the choices I've made in the past, --- while looking for a great buy on an eight pack of "Fruit of the Loom" jockeys.
Maybe we can put it in Bill Sali's office and highlight anything "The Commandments" have to say about honesty.
Any other ideas?

16. Have you seen this recent poll? Brady and Grant are both leading!
The trends are definitely favorable for these races. Just hope the large undecided percentages split in our favor.

I was in Homedale a few weeks back. I bought several vinyl LP's there from an older gentleman's collection. I'm fairly new to the State but would venture to say that Homedale seems "very" Idaho. It's good to know there's a progressive presence there! Is Grant making much headway in those parts?

17. Homedale is Very Idaho
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 02:54 PM by sheeptramp
I cant say that I have my fingers on the pulse of political Homedale, except to say its as conservative as any place on earth.
There are 2 cars with progressive type bumper stickers in Homedale, and one of them is mine.
I am surprised by the number of Brady for Gov yard signs I see in my hood. I had though Butch Otter was fairly popular, based on his terrific hair alone.
I work in agriculture and am mostly surrounded by avowed conservatives, though many are quietly disgruntled. Even these people think Bill Sali is a dope.
