Idaho Marine dies in Iraq
6/10/2005 - Idaho Marine Killed In Iraq

The Dept. of Defense has confirmed the death of Lance Cpl. Dustin V. Birch, 22, of St. Anthony, Idaho. Birch is one of five marines killed June 9 as a result of an explosion while conducting combat operations with 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, in Haqlaniyah, Iraq. Birch was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Boise.

And every time I hear of someone that age or younger dying in Iraq, I am so saddened. That is so young, too young to die in this lie-based war. May Dustin rest in peace and may his grieving parents find solace.

Our Coach, Margaret Oveson, has been South Fremont's Coach for three years. The program had been winning but under her direction the team has now brought back two consecutive state titles. Last years title was the first in over twenty years for South Fremont High School.
