Ask your ABC affiliate to Air "Troubled Waters" Environmental Documentary

From: United Church of Christ <ucctakeaction@ucc.org>
Date: Oct 27, 2006
Subject: JPANet News - Ask your ABC affiliate to Air "Troubled Waters"

Dear Ian,

JPANet members recently received a JPANet News message announcing the airing of a UCC-produced documentary on access to clean, safe water. “Troubled Waters,” an hour-long documentary written and jointly produced by the Justice and Witness Ministries, Wider Church Ministries and Proclamation, Identity and Communication offices of the United Church of Christ, began airing on ABC television on October 22, 2006.

“Troubled Waters” portrays some of the challenges faced by people and nations everywhere with regard to access to clean, safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. The film addresses the increasing privatization of water resources around the world and raises disturbing questions about who has access to this precious resource.

Local ABC affiliate stations can decide whether or not to air the documentary. Stations serving the viewing areas listed below have not yet scheduled the documentary. If your local affiliate is on this list, contact the program director and encourage him or her to air the film. Local stations do listen to the wishes of their viewers, so a few polite requests can make a big difference. Let them know that the subject of access to clean water affects everyone’s well-being. Programming that addresses the common and most basic needs of all deserves to be aired as widely as possible.

Check to see if your local ABC affiliate is listed below and is among those that have not scheduled the documentary for airing. Call the program director encouraging them to air “Troubled Waters.” If they have already decided to air “Troubled Waters,” thank them for their responsiveness.

List of affiliates that have not scheduled an airing of “Troubled Waters”:

Atlanta
Houston
Minneapolis-St. Paul
Tampa-St. Pete
Sarasota
Miami-Ft. Lauderdale
Orlando-Daytona Beach
Sacramento
St. Louis
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Indianapolis
Charlotte
San Diego

Nashville

And don’t forget to visit http://www.troubledwatersdoc.com for a listing of scheduled air times, so that you can watch it at home, if your station has already scheduled a showing.
